Become An Action Figure: An Excerpt from Dr. Brown’s New Book MAXIMIZE YOURSELF (Coming Soon)

“Greatness is not what comes out of the womb of a woman; greatness is birthed out of the courageous heart that refuses to do anything but stand and fight when faced with an insurmountable challenge, even when initially afraid.”

~Dr. Mikel Brown

hero200 We have all experienced, in some form or another, abuse in our lives from friends, relatives, parents, and even self-inflicted wounds, which have left an indelible mark on our psyches. For some of us, even our bodies.

And, with every effort to erase them, they only appear to be so deeply ingrained that they are impossible to remove. I believe that these scars are not meant to be removed; but to move us from the place where these scars were first engraved on our bodies and/or our minds. Yes, even Jesus, when He was resurrected, maintained the same wounds in His hands and feet as when He was nailed to the cross.

Have you ever had to be brave when you didn’t want to be? In fact, you were too afraid to be valiant. You realized, deep down to the core of your being, that you had to face your fears because you couldn’t run from them anymore. It wasn’t that you were tired of running from them; there just weren’t any other places you could hide—not even within yourself. You just could not go on lying to yourself about your situation. You woke up and realized that all your friends were fully aware of your apprehension to confront your situation; they were just too nice to say anything to your face about it.

The fears I am talking about are not necessarily big monsters that stand about ten feet tall with incredible strength. However, these fears are indeed giants; not necessarily in physical size, but of great size and power in one’s mind.

These fears can be identified in excessive weight, failure, loneliness, insecurity, low self-esteem, starting a business, doing what you really want to do, etc. This list is practically endless, and only the individual knows inside of him or herself that these fears actually exist.

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”

~ Ambrose Redmoon

If you are going to strip yourself of your Clark Kent suit of mediocrity, you cannot have a plan B, or your superman suit will be too large for such a frail body. Plan B should never be considered as an option in the event Plan A doesn’t succeed. Plan B should only be the next step of what should be done after Plan A has been completed. Sequence is important for a systematized process for success, but not as a substitute.

“Every day, people settle for less than they deserve. They are only partially living or at best living a partial life. Every human being has the potential for greatness.”

~ Bo Bennett
