Give It Your All Or Don’t Do It At All

Giving it your all textWould You Like to Discover Why a Poor Black Youth Became a Billionaire?

More progress and opportunities in life are forfeited by half hearted efforts than one can ever imagine. Something is deficient in a person’s character when they relapse into obscurity when what they are pursuing doesn’t happen fast enough. This can easily cause the average person to become cynical and skeptical of opportunities. In fact, their cynicism reveals itself in their behavior and lack of drive. They become nonchalant or casual in their efforts because they’ve lost hope of anything ever happening favorable for them.

Sustained success will never come to those who are casual in their endeavors. And, if you are in a hurry to be successful, you will inevitably end up making one blunder after another. Whatever you do, it has to be intentional and purposeful. Choose the battles worth fighting and only fight if there is benefit involved. Learn to take your time. Success is always in walking distance. You either have to give it your all, or don’t give it at all.

If you do something half-heartedly, you have more of a chance of losing both whatever you want, and the possibly yourself in the process. You can’t allow fear or apathy to dictate to you because they can cause you to miss out on living your best life. If you’re going to have a chance at succeeding, you have to give it your all, despite the challenges. Oftentimes, failures are experienced by people who give up before realizing how close they are to success.

I’ve discovered that just knowing something isn’t enough; you have to apply the knowledge. To be willing may sound admirable, but this is not enough; you have to employ action to make things work. You must become the change you want to see. Unless you change, nothing will change around you.

One of the greatest weaknesses in life is giving up. The most certain way to succeed in life is always to do it just one more time when something doesn’t work. Do not fear mistakes because God specializes in turning mistakes into miracles. The only way failure can actually exist is if a person is no longer willing to get up. People with options are usually those who anticipate failure in what they are doing, so they run to the next endeavor before they fulfill the expectation of the first.

How do you kill a man with a dream—give him another one. It is easy to give into distractions when your dream doesn’t seem to be working out. Most people struggle with perseverance and would rather capitulate to the circumstances than fight for their dream. It was George Burns who said, “I honestly think it is better to be a failure at something you love, than to be a success at something you hate.”

What you want to do, and what you can do, is limited only by what you believe you can do. Your dream, your business, your family, and your life must be valued enough to lose the fear of opposition; you must work hard and do whatever it takes to achieve success in these areas. This is how you will grow.

There are only two categories of people—the ones who will give their all and the ones who admire the ones who will give their all. Those who give 50%, also give 50 excuses why something can’t be done … Those who give 100%, just do it.

When challenges create a need for me to step out of my comfort zone and exert more energy than I might be willing to give, I consider how preserving beyond them will benefit me more than the discomfort. I could easily come up with 50 reasons why something can’t be done, but how is that productive? It’s always better for me to just do it!

Michael Jordan was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He did not have extra gold dust sprinkled on him at birth. He had the same possibilities as anyone else—he just had a greater desire to succeed than most. After being cut from his high school basketball team, he learned a valuable lesson. If you are going to succeed in living your dream, it’s going to take more than talent…it’s going to take you giving your all.

It’s not as important to know how he became a billionaire, as it is important to know why he became one. The why always exceeds the how! Therefore, whatever you do in life; whether it’s playing sports, being a student, a janitor, or working as the manager of an assembly line, if you can discover the why you want something bad enough, the how will manifest with ease.

Whatever you do in life, give it your all or don’t do it at all. It’s not worth doing, if your heart is not in what you’re doing. If You Want More Out Of Your Life? Give It Your All, Give It Your All, Give It Your All!

What We Have Is A Failure To Communicate

Communication1Does what you say matter more than how you say it? This is the age-old question that many people have concerning verbal communication. This dilemma seems to arrest people as they are trying to verbalize their feelings in order to get their point across. There is a huge discrepancy between the way people generally process the information they hear as opposed to the way they communicate their thoughts. Factors often exist when there is a breakdown in the communication process that are often overlooked such as culture, ethnicity, education, economics, a person’s mental condition, preferences, etc. These factors should not be undermined as though they are not important to proper communication. If a person desires to get their point across without causing a ruckus, it will prove to be a wise investment of time to learn communication skills. Especially if you are married, where most of your communication battles will occur, this is the ideal dialogue for you.

The Communicator’s Aim:
The person communicating should immediately take into account the aforementioned factors. This is not an assumption of one’s intelligence, but rather wisdom. The communicator’s aim should be to be understood. If a person attends any of my business conclaves, they can easily discern that I do not use big words to try to impress the people in attendance. My aim is not to impress, but to impress upon them the importance of the information given. I like to hold my audiences with my verbal skills not lose them.

Communication Problems in Marriage:
When married couples have communication problems, it is usually because they have established a non-verbal communication basis that they have not mastered. Assumptions are made because of previous misunderstanding and therefore instead of clearly communicating their thoughts to one another they give out singles that are rarely caught or understood. If you find yourself often saying, “I thought you meant…,” this response is an indication that you clearly have a communication problem.

A Communication Problem:
Some years back, there was a movie that Paul Newman starred in entitled, Cool Hand Luke. The character Paul Newman was playing was a rebel young man that often found himself in trouble with the law. He ended up in a back-woods prison surrounded by swamp and venomous snakes. The Warden would often inform the prisoners that if they tried to escape, they would both be recaptured and returned to be brutally beaten to serve as a reminder to not attempt to escape again or the swamp would kill them before they could escape to freedom. One day, Paul Newman’s character escaped, but was later captured and returned to the prison to resume his sentence. This is when the Warden spoke the famous phrase, “What we have here is a failure to communicate.” As a young man, I loved the phrase but I did not fully understand it until later in my years. What was meant was if you continue to do the opposite of what is spoken, obviously there is a misunderstanding.

Body Language Speaks Loudly:
Oftentimes, when words or phrases are misunderstood, it is usually because what is said may have a different meaning or connotation to the listener. The second reason for the possible misunderstanding could be, and in most cases is, when what is said does not correspond with the tone and facial expression when it was spoken. Therefore, the person may not have heard what you said because they were engulfed by how you said it. This is a major problem in marriage and sometimes in business board meetings. Identifying the problem is a third of the solution. However, knowing what to do with your new discovery is another part of the solution. Having the humility to place priority on the importance of getting and receiving an understanding, is far better and advantageous than gratifying your frustrations.

Clarification of a Solution:
Take your time, be patient, because the person you may be talking to, may have a legitimate hearing impairment. Communication is the basis to life. General simple verbiage gives you a far better percentage of being understood than speaking in an extra extensive vocabulary that may not impress anyone but you.

The Dominant Quality In Leaders Of Distinction

MB Text 8-14-2015 (Leadership Qualities)It’s no secret that corporations look for prolific leaders to drive the corporate success van. This means putting the right person in the right role and surrounding that person with the right personnel. By doing so, corporate decision makers can increase the chances of producing a profit for its investors and show significant growth by the end of the year. So, what should their question be before starting their hunt for such a person(s)?

The primary question should not be, “Who is a difference maker?” Rather, it should be, “What qualities make one a difference maker?” Once this is established, the manhunt can begin since the search will narrow in on qualities rather than a person. Many mistakes have been made by people in search of the one person they believe can help change things for them or their team. Whether corporate or personal, judging and sizing up a person based on their present condition, or outward appearance, may prove to be impractical.

People who possess qualities which make them stand out aren’t as easily discernable. One reason, is they are not ambitious, nor do they have need of a title to define them. You may find a person who knows how to say the right words and is an over achiever, but lacks discipline and integrity. The person who is truly a difference maker is more interested in the quality of their work, than their work looking as though it has quality.

Let me explain what I consider to be an attribute. An attribute is a quality or characteristic of someone or something which gives credit for things such as a body of work, art, or a saying. An attribute can be considered a standard or conviction which causes a person to stand out. Imagine being in the company of difference makers who care about making a difference in society and in the lives of others.

What do you have when an entire team of people with difference maker qualities come together? What you have is a winning combination who can never be defeated. A difference maker is someone who is willing and able to fill all aspects of their role with confidence, who consistently delivers on objectives, and who follows or leads their team to peak performance. They understand their role is as essential as the next man’s. In many cases, a difference maker shakes things up, brings forth change, and demands results from themselves and their colleagues. They aren’t interested in being popular; they want success for the company or team even if it means not leading. With this attitude they will hit their targets and inspire their teams to do the same.

Difference makers are self-motivated. Difference makers are honest, they don’t cover up mistakes, and they are completely accountable for what works and what doesn’t work. They take full responsibility for their actions and results. You can’t tell if these people are difference makers by looking at them; their qualities are exposed by interacting with them. They are proactive, solution-oriented, and take-action people. Their values align with those of their organization or team, and these values drive day-to-day behaviors to pursue excellence.

How does a company, small business, or individual find a Difference Maker? Well, you can’t find them in the Yellow Pages. In the brawl for gifted able bodies, the challenges most organizations face are not limited to the simple unavailability of competent people. The hiring process is not set up to properly identify those who can truly make a difference. Focusing only on the skills and experience needed, the interviewer often pays too little attention to values, motivations, habits, work styles, behaviors, and cognitive abilities. Stop qualifying a person for where your company presently is, and start looking for those individuals who may not have all the skills, but who are willing to be molded into the person you need, not just want. Don’t look for the mate who completes you, look for the person who complements you.

Companies should design employment programs to become mentors to their employees instead of employers. Difference Makers are developed into their role not fit into it.

The Balance of Success

MB Text 7-12-2015 (Balance Success)Faith is the power link to every seeable impossible desirable endeavor you may encounter. If balance is the key to life, then, faith is the power of life, and patience is the virtue of life. It is quite easy to talk about how one’s life needs balance; but how to achieve it has escaped the majority of people.

Achieving balance can be difficult because it involves knowledge, wisdom, tenacity, and action, and some people may lack adequacy in one or more of these qualities. In your Bible, the book of James says that we must not be hearers of the word only, but also doers of the word. This is where the problem comes into the equation. Most people are good at hearing to a degree, but lousy at doing. Balance, then, is formed out of sound and unbiased advice and guidance from a creditable source, and then immediately made actionable.

Faith is the power of life because it produces the ability to be tenacious. Power is power; it has no alternative to its strength and supremacy. Faith rests in its own pool of authority, and it is the force behind every movement and action. Patience is the virtue of life. It is the quality of character and the strategy to winning. Patience is needed in order to qualify the balance in one’s life, or else everything will be done in life without forethought and purpose.

Since most people are good at hearing instructions but terrible when it comes to follow through, failure is frequently inevitable. Balance is not leveling every quality off to the same degree; it is placing the importance on each quality regardless of its magnitude. When balance is achieved, it looks like the display on an equalizer component. Therefore, perfect harmony is realized because balance has been accomplished. This kind of action results not only in life becoming manageable, but also in success as being practical. There is nothing more attractive to God than a breathing faith.

Your life is at its finest when you become entrenched and completely invested in the effort but unattached from the results. I realized how difficult this can be, but it’s possible. This is the place where you are intimate with your personal power because you realize that the expedition and the exertion are important. There is a place you arrive where you must draw a line in the sand and let go of that something which has to lead you to a new position, or to a certain person loving you, or it has to lead to you making a lot of money. When your desires are discombobulated or targeted towards you feeling better about yourself, you actually become disempowered by making the goal the consummate.

I believe the goal has to do with the process itself. In reality, the end is inherited in the means. Who you are when you put forth the effort is more important than what you want to become at the end of your effort. If you are totally convinced you have nothing left in you after your effort, how can you not be content with the outcome?

Understanding the balance to success is not winning every battle or achieving every goal. It is what knowledge you are to acquire, or what skill you are to develop, or what corrections you are to make from each skirmish or attempt at something, regardless of the outcome, so that you are more prepared for the next endeavor.

4 Non-Negotiable Qualities I Look For In Hiring

MB Text 6-7-2015 1(Business Hiring)There are certain qualities I look for in a person in which determines the kind of relationship I choose to have with them. I believe the degree of my personal relationships, whether professional or personal, are determined by the qualities I listed below. If you have a relationship with a person who does not add to promoting or improving your quality of life, than they are perhaps unintentionally diminishing it. These qualities will help employers as well as individuals who are interested in making the right choice of those they allow in their space.

Honesty

I look for integrity in a person’s life, because if you can’t trust a person, it is difficult to build a quality structural business or relationship. We live in a society where lying is a common practice, and no one seems to care unless they are the ones being lied to. In case you didn’t know, honesty is telling the truth. In other words, we conform our words to reality. On the other hand, integrity is conforming reality to our words. It is keeping promises and fulfilling expectations. Therefore, when I employ the term “honesty,” I am alluding to both honesty and integrity.

At the most basic level of human characteristics, an honest person does not lie. They will not exaggerate or misrepresent the facts. They do not withhold negative information. They will give you the good, the bad, and the ugly. They have the courage to face reality head-on and make their words conform to it. They would never ask someone else to lie on their behalf or to cover for them.

They are also honest in giving others feedback and they are able to be direct without being insensitive. They refuse to create unnecessary drama, and they do not say anything about those who are absent that they wouldn’t say if they were present.

Humility

An unassuming person doesn’t mean they are egotistical in a quiet way. A person with the characteristic of humility has a good sense of him or herself. They do not think more highly of themselves than they should which deals with pride, nor do they think lower of themselves than they ought which lends itself to having a poor self-esteem. They are sober-minded and usually unruffled by compliments, having a realistic grip on their strengths and weaknesses.

It is important to this person not to exhibit a life of self-importance, thinking that the world center’s around them. They may display determination and get-up-and-go for the cause, for the company, or for the team, but they are not ambitious for themselves. They are not overly-concerned about titles, status, or position in comparison to others.

Proactive

A proactive person takes a practical, hands-on approach to life. They are hungry and single-minded with an appetite for accomplishment. Metaphorically speaking, their last meal or last accomplishment is already a fading memory. They know what they want and they want it now. They are not impatient, just eager. They are looking for the next project, the next challenge or the next obstacle so they can figure it out like a Rubik’s cube.

They don’t spend their time dwelling on past accomplishments. They realize life is about living and living is about activity or movement. If a person isn’t moving, they must be dead. They are always reaching for more—setting higher goals. This is the kind of person who is driven to exceed whatever expectations have been imposed upon them. This is just a part of their make-up. They love figuring something out, especially if they have had no prior knowledge of it.

A hungry proactive person is intellectually curious. They read regularly —newspapers, magazines, and books. They love learning new things and sharing what they’ve learned with others. They can’t just sit around because it would just about kill them—not in a literal sense.

A proactive person will come to a meeting prepared, having completed his or her assignment. In the meeting, they are active listeners, asking questions and taking notes. They are not intimidated by the apathy of others or the views of others because of their active involvement and concern about getting the much needed information to do a job correctly. After the meeting, they follow up. They complete their assignments on-time without someone having to prod them to do so. They are relentless when it comes to execution. Although this is an admirable trait, others working around them are sometimes disturbed because their high-powered standards exposes the low standards they may govern their lives by.

Resolute Thinker

This is a person who is not afraid of making decisions. However, unlike strong-minded and sometimes unbendable people, the resolute thinker is one who makes calculated decisions. He or she believes rather mentally, orally, or by written annotation that collecting data is a necessity. They can easily spot a person ill prepared for their task, or a product part that is faulty or sub-standard. They will never sell or offer such a sub-quality product for the sake of a sell.

A Resolute Thinker is usually a person who exercises initiative and is very resourceful. This person is mainly resolution oriented and secondarily results responsive. In other words, to solve a problem is more important than getting the results, which may eventually reveal a lack of prioritizing for a company. He or she will work better in customer service or human resource departments. They are good at reading personalities and good at helping people figure out what they want. If you are an employer, put this person in front as a representative, and your rewards will be returned by an enormous amount of compliments.

For the employer who is looking for a good employee, these standards should be non-negotiable. It’s hard to find the buried treasure unless you have a map. It’s difficult to win a scavenger hunt unless you have a list. And, it’s impossible to hire the right people unless you know exactly what you are looking for.

Handle Your Business And Make Life Happen

MB Text 5-24-2015 1(Handle Your Business)How do you handle being offended? Are you easily offended by the truth, unsolicited advice or offended by a lie? How you handle an offense is most likely how you handle everything else in life. Oftentimes, when a person struggles with offense it is demonstrative of a lack of character.

Some people think they are strong and can handle correction or misfortune, but in most cases, their skin is slightly thicker than a thin veneer of cosmetic make-up. I learned early on that life is full of rules, policies, and systems. When any of these have been violated or misappropriated, correction has to be made by the violators if they want their lives to turn for the good. You won’t always get things right the first time, but you have to keep working at it until the correct system or pattern for doing something is discovered.

There are no shortages of opportunities to make a living at what you love; there’s only a deficiency of resolve to make it happen. It’s odd how people can get upset with everyone around them when they struggle with trying to accomplish something, as if everyone else is the chief cause of them getting something wrong.

Allen Iverson, one of the NBA’s great small guards, said that after making bad choices as a young NBA star, and no other team wanting him after he was released from his previous team, he penalized his children and wife as if they were the reasons for all his misfortune. In other words, he treated them badly because he found himself offended by other people’s rejection of his lifestyle, thinking he would be more of a hindrance than a help to their teams.

Sometimes, people carry in their minds a sense of entitlement because of their talents or abilities. They act or behave however they please, as if there are no consequences and others have to concede to them because of their ability to perform well in their gifted areas. Get over yourself! There are thousands of people who can do exactly what you can do, if not better. Balance your emotions and target your anger in the right direction. Make the necessary adjustments and refocus your efforts to not just develop your skills, but your character as well.

Never let life, or others’ opinions, impede on your ability to manifest your dreams. On the other hand, don’t be closed to correction and advice which can help you overcome the hurdles of pride and a false sense of confidence. Dig deeper into your dreams and deeper into yourself. Believe that anything is possible, and make it happen. This cannot, and will never happen, until you learn how life works. You cannot break the rules and expect the status quo to become your own opinion. You’ll never win at life if you don’t know how to play by the rules.

Just because you are struggling, it does not mean you are failing. Every great success requires some type of struggle to get there, even if it’s just learning something you were never trained to do. If you sit back and never do anything, you will never achieve anything. It doesn’t matter if you’ve failed on your first, second, third…or fiftieth attempt. All that matters is that you learn something, get back up, and do it again, until you learn the correct way of doing it.

Accomplishing something brings a good feeling, but achieving it after you almost gave in to failure, or when nobody else thought you could accomplish it, brings an awesome feeling.

Put Your Mind On Your Money

MB blog_textSome people excel with money and some don’t – Which One Are You? Are you embarrassed by your money skills? If you are sick and tired of doing money the old way—read this! If you need to increase your income, let’s start by discovering how much money you already have with your present income by discovering how not to make your debtors richer.

“I believe that the power to make money is a gift from God.”
~John D. Rockerfeller

Most people have it all wrong about money in America. Money is the one common thread that ties all the nations of the world together. Poverty is the perversion of prosperity, and the parody of financial freedom is debt. A dollar saved is a value, a dollar invested produces increase. What money comes in today will always reflect what went out yesterday.

The art of creating wealth works in the reverse of how one creates debt. The improper use of money creates debt. Debt is the result of what you cannot afford. Wealth is the result of the appropriate management of money. People have it all wrong, a person doesn’t have to possess a lot of money to create wealth—it is having the knowledge and using it, which causes your money to work to produce wealth for you.

Can You Handle the Truth? Most people aren’t enthusiastic about hearing the truth, especially when it challenges their self-imposed inadequacies. These people concoct fantasies in their mind to substantiate their defects. Now of course, the stories are not true, but they are stories they can believe, which shift the blame of underperforming from themselves to some other person or condition.

Henry Ford once said, “The man that believes he can and the man who believes he can’t are both right.” Most people have had money problems and most people do not give up on life, they continue to march on until they can either find a solution or make up another story. These concocted stories become the reasons or excuses for the lack of passion, which is in my opinion, sheer fear. There is no easier lie to believe than the one that places the blame on God.

You must initially see that debt and financial struggles (poverty) go hand in hand. Please understand that my aim is not to humiliate or beat you down if you find yourself in this predicament, I simply want to give to you a simple plan to better equip yourself and your family to be financially secure. This doesn’t mean you’re going to become a millionaire over night, but you can be en route to fulfilling your dreams and having more money, even if it is not a million dollars in your bank account.

They say that money isn’t everything, and that’s true—but look at how many things it is. In our society, money is everything. For Americans, it is how we keep score. A man’s treatment of money is the most decisive test of his character—how he makes it and how he spends it. Money doesn’t change a person; it simply exposes him or her for who they already are. If money makes you feel better about yourself, then you neither understand yourself nor the reason for creating wealth.

The Bible says, “…For the love of money is the root of all evil.” This verse is often misquoted—it doesn’t say that money is evil. The personal secular methods that help a man acquire a fortune are the very ones that can keep him from enjoying it. Money itself is not evil, nor is it good. Both good and evil can be done with money. The old maxim is, “Money may not bring happiness…”, but I say, “Neither will poverty.”

When a man respects the potential of money and learns to control its influence, he becomes a wise man. Are you a good money manager? Yes you are! All most people need is a little motivation and a little help, and they are on their way to being a blessing to family, church, and to others.

In just three to six months, you can free up some of your cash which can go towards other bills if, you can believe it. The basic requirement needed for debt reduction is for you to “Start.” Learn and apply the spiritual principle of giving. I have heard people say, “But I don’t know where to begin.” My answer is simple. How did you start getting into debt? You started collecting credit cards and systematically using them. Reverse the process. Start with plastic surgery by cutting up your credit cards, then collect and arrange your bills and pay them systematically.

Do not be afraid to examine how you got into your financial mess. Retrace your steps and you will end up where you started—debt free.

Increasing Your Value Without Lowering Your Quality

value-post-200What part of you do you believe you value the most—the outward appearance or the inward qualities? If you were a product or merchandise, would you be worth selling to your high-end clients? Do you consider yourself a rare piece of fine art whose price is non-negotiable?

While living in this highly technological culture, along with its groundbreaking medical cures and research, new advancement in plastic surgery and scientific breakthroughs, people are less concerned with character than they are with appearance. Just think; if you don’t like your weight, gastric bypass or one of the other ways to get around eating healthy and daily exercise is available. If you think your lips are too thin, apply a small dosage of collagen to fatten them up. Or if your hair is not long enough or full enough, there are weaves, extensions and other hair and scalp products that makes people question if what is on the head is real or not.

The American business industry aggressively pushes commercials and advertising on their viewership suggesting that external appearance is far more important than inner qualities. Therefore, it is no small wonder why companies, inventors, and the clothing industry are spending billions annually while making a mad dash to either steer mainstream values or create new ways to feed the ‘Me’ culture. The ‘Me’ culture is nothing but a masking of the ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ tradition.

But what about the spiritual qualities that allows a person to have a sense of mental stability? Do real inner qualities matter in today’s society where people are more concerned with breaking the rules to get ahead? Obviously, this is a dog-eat-dog culture where the weak are swallowed up and the strong are mastered by the rich. However, everyone doesn’t live their lives or conduct business like most people today who believe the bottom line is money exclusively.

In the movie Jerry Maguire, Jerry was a model sports agent, eager to do just about anything he could to get the largest possible contracts for his clients, with of course, a nice commission for himself. Until, one day, he suddenly has qualms about what he’s actually doing. When he voices these misgivings in writing, he eventually loses his job and all of his clients are stripped from him, leaving him with a secretary who believes in what he’s doing, and Rod Tidwell, a football player who he hopes will show as much of his heart on the football field as he does for his family. Jerry then looks to resurrect his career while still staying true to himself.

Yes, we are all a product or merchandise that has value. Daily, we exchange portions of our intellect, time, and energy for a wage or salary. Each individual makes their own determination of how much money they will agree to accept in exchange for their abilities. However, what I may personally agree to for a wage doesn’t determine my intrinsic value. A 1960’s Zenith television commercial slogan was, “The quality goes in before the name goes on.” Placing more value on the inside, personally determines the value externally.

Look at building your business with character to attract quality customers whose purchasing power will remain, rather than building the appearance only which contains no substance. Build your family with qualities that creates stability and produce off-spring with good character. Establish relationships that are not predicated on what you can give to each other, but what you can be to one another.

What would you rather have as a business owner, the ability to attract 5,000 customers in a week to buy your product that you know has no real substance, or 500 customers who love your product and service, and who go out and tell their friends about it? In the long run, you will eventually turn 500 happy customers into 500,000 customers over time. Intrinsic qualities will prove to be far more lucrative than outer appearances.

After removing the cosmetics and putting on a few extra pounds, will your spouse want what you use to be or will they still be in love with who you truly are. The quality truly must go in before you think about placing yourself on the market. Remember, all that glitter’s is not gold!

The Discovery of Your Life’s Primary Purpose

Primary PurposeIs it too late for me to discover my life’s true purpose?

There are two primary reasons why I believe most people live their entire lives in the dark concerning their true purpose. Oftentimes, these reasons compel them to go on a futile search. There is no chance of finding what they are looking for while they are under their old mental regime. Not only are many of these people making constant blunders with their lives, but they find themselves always moving from one job to another or from marriage to marriage because their inward compass is out of balance. Life for these people is one big earthly laboratory experiment, and they seem to be the guinea pig.

One reason a person is unable to discover their true purpose is that they mistaken what they like to do for their primary purpose, when in fact it is their sub-purpose in life. The second reason is similar to the first, they are unwilling to give up searching among places, peoples, and religions believing that these entities are the most likely places one can find his or her purpose.

Bruce Lee, one of the greatest martial artists that ever lived was once asked by a master martial artist to teach him everything he knew about the martial arts. Bruce Lee held up two cups, both filled with liquid and said, “The first cup represents all your knowledge about the martial arts, and the second cup represents all my knowledge about the martial arts. If you want to fill your cup with all of my knowledge about the martial arts, you must first empty your cup of your knowledge of the martial arts.”

Perhaps, you may not understand the cost of self-discovery. However, one thing for certain is, it will come at a price of surrendering all the knowledge you once deemed necessary, even though these experiences made you who you are today. If you want to learn about what your true primary purpose is in life, you must empty yourself of all the false purposes you’ve been taught. This includes the idea that you have no purpose at all.

You cannot be yourself until you know yourself. So, while you are in search of the ‘who’ and the ‘why’ of your being, life is in constant transition. I know how it feels to harbor thoughts of wanting to do one hundred different things to define your purpose, but you just can’t seem to come across the one simple thing you want to do more than anything in the world. Sometimes, the mental block exists because self-knowledge can be painful and we prefer the gratification of an illusion. If most of us remain ignorant of ourselves, it is because we want to.

Can I help you? The low road to take is to simply ignore any intuition that life holds for you more than just a job and a family. The high peak of knowledge is perfect self-knowledge, that you believe you are not a mistake, and that you are wonderfully and uniquely created by your Creator for His purpose. God never creates mistakes, we are simply mistaken. There is no self-definition without God-recognition. To know God is to have a revelation of God. It may display wisdom to know others, but it is enlightenment to know one’s self.

I want you to do something that you might consider quite odd. I’m asking you to do one exercise that can probably help you easily discover your purpose in life. It is important that you understand that despite the games played with others, we must not play games with ourselves. We only get one try at life, and there is actually no room for error. Experiments are too costly and it is an ongoing expense. So, if your life and future seem dark, get some white paint and brighten it up. This is a good place to start.

My suggestion to you is to get a blank sheet of white paper and write as the header, “My Life’s Purpose.” Underneath the header start to write a list of things that matters most to you about what you believe your purpose is. Don’t over-think, just start listing things. The one that makes you happy is a substitute, but the one that breaks you down and reveals your compassion is most likely to be your purpose.

Your life is a novel, but your purpose is a novelty. A novel is a fictional prose work with a relatively long and often complex plot, usually divided into chapters or episodes, in which the story traditionally develops through the thoughts and actions of its character(s). However, when you consider a novelty, it is something new, original, and different that is interesting or exciting, though often for only a short time which no other person will have the same privilege of assignment.

Life holds purpose and it should be touched to release its meaning, not strangled until you kill it. Life is supposed to work fluently, despite the bumps and turns, highs and lows; for these are all a part of life’s obstacle course. Therefore, when your purpose is discovered, its treasure is worth more than life itself.

Mastering The Human Psyche

I consider myself to be a student of life, and because of that, I have studied different principles that exist in this earthly realm that have propelled people to succeed in life. One amazing truth that I have realized is that people who seem to be the most talented and intelligent don’t necessarily outperform those who are less talented. Rather, it is the people with the greatest desire to follow-through with their dream that excel the most.
