The Intrinsic Quality of the Successful

iqs-200-postIf you are waiting for someone to substantiate that you are a success, you are waiting for the wrong information. If you are looking around to see the symbols of your success to validate whether or not you are a success, you are looking at the wrong things.

Internal success far outweighs external success. Knowing who you are and living a life of fulfillment is far more valuable than all the money in the world. In fact, having a powerful sense of self-awareness, and an intuitive knowledge of who you truly are without the need of outside influences to help you secure your mental sense of self-worth, is a priceless commodity.

I am not saying wealth and material things are not important, because that would not be true. On the contrary, money and material things are an absolute necessity if one is going to survive in this world. Riches may not bring permanent happiness, but neither will poverty. I have seen wealthy people miserable and unhappy, though they possess all the money and material things a person can dream of having. I have also seen people living with just the bare basic necessities of life, and they are just as miserable and unhappy as the person with everything.

Therefore, money and material things are not the true symbols of success. The Good Book says that a person who cannot rule their own soul is like a city without walls. This means that the person’s life and all they may have built throughout their lifetime is completely vulnerable and open to assaults. These people usually end up losing everything because they most likely have stepped on (not over) many friends and associates just to get what they thought would validate them in the eyes of people. A person succeeding in making money is not an indicator that the person has succeeded with controlling their insatiable appetites of lasciviousness.

Your self-image is a product of your experiences, failures, triumphs, humiliations, and breakthroughs. Through these experiences, you create a picture of yourself and most importantly, you believe that it is a true depiction of who you are. Because you believe your self-image is accurate, you base your actions on it. If your actions lead to failure or success, your self-image is then is responsible. There is a reason why willpower does not work, and why it is like a snap-back effect. Your “will” is powered by something other than you simply making a decision to do something. Your mind controls your body, but your will controls your mind.

When people use willpower, what they are actually doing is going to battle against their self-image. However, the self-image is always stronger because it is their subconscious belief. To further explain my point, I want you to view yourself as a rubber band. When you stretch the rubber band, it is similar to your willpower. If you think you can go around for a full day as a fully stretched out rubber band, you are sadly mistaken. At some point during the course of the day, something will distract you—and you will let up on the pressure. When that happens, the rubber band snaps back to its true shape. This is what happens when you use your will power to mentally change what you think about yourself without you changing your intrinsic core belief of who you are. Woody Allen said, “My only regret is that I’m not someone else.”

What a sad way of thinking about yourself. You can make all the money your little heart desires, but you better know why you are trying to make money, because money itself will not be the remedy to your lack of fulfillment. This is one of the reasons why so many people experience the yo-yo effect. The will is designed to do what it does, but it does not make you who you are. If you learn to re-engineer your self-image based on a God-consciousness, you will permanently expand it, and there will be no more snap-back effect.

A neighbor was befriending a child in the neighborhood.
“I understand that you have twins in your home. Are you one of them?”
The boy slowly put his head down and said, “No sir! I’m just a spare.”

Once you learn how to activate and release God’s power in every situation, you will find yourself moving beyond obstacles that previously frustrated you. You will actually develop an unstoppable God (self)-confidence and a heightened excitement about your future. Like most people, your will is to be successful, but it does not mean because your will is for success, that you will obtain it. You have to go further than just to will it; you have to believe it so that no approval would be necessary to make your life work. There is no doubt in my mind that if you are a success; the only thing I must do is to believe that you are.

Now, let me re-address the subject of money. It’s right to make money and even ethically there is nothing wrong with making a lot of money. Money may not grow on trees, but it does grow from talent and knowledge. Concentration, Creativity, and Negotiation are three important elements of having a successful business. The ability to take an idea, analyze business opportunities, and evaluate business options is a major attribute use. When your heart is balanced, it takes a conscientious effort to ensure that your mind coincides with your heart.

Four Steps To Help You Move On When Critics Want You To Stop

criticism-postOnce you make the decision to go all out and make something happen, all the components of various materials conspire to make it happen, and every naysayer and malicious person connives to block it from happening.

Opposition usually doesn’t rear its ugly head until a person is serious about achieving the goals of their life. Have you ever noticed those you were so were true friends, remained so, until you made a decision to move your life in a positive direction which did not include them? All of a sudden your so-called-friend was trying to sabotage your success by giving you every excuse they could think of, in hopes it would influence you not to continue in your personal pursuit of living your dream. They are discouragers not encouragers. The personal interest of this type of person is not to promote someone, but rather to secretly demote them in subtle ways.

I cannot recall a time when I was the brunt of a joke, as much as when I was twenty-three years old preparing to end my time of service in the United States Army. A group of constituents and close acquaintances came together to throw a farewell celebration for me. However, it turned out to be more like a Dean Martin Celebrity Roast Night. Some cracked jokes and laughed about my exiting the military. They laughed about me having no prospects for employment, and they sentenced my future to be as one receiving public assistance and eventually finding myself back in an Army uniform after my dreams had crashed. Nevertheless, they were wrong.

They were wrong for two reasons. One, I never had any doubt or apprehension concerning my decision to get out of the military;…and two, I did not set out to prove them wrong and to prove to them I could make it without big Uncle Sam watching over my shoulder. Sometimes, a joke can be a cover for how someone truly feels about you and the decision you are making with your life. With today’s cell phone technology, you can text a joke to a person about him or herself, and then put LOL on the end; and they may not ever catch the person’s true intent.

When a person makes every attempt to bring you down, it is because they are already beneath you. So, don’t get mad, get glad…because at least you have something for them to joke about. How else can they laugh? Their life is so miserable they need something to laugh about just to keep from crying.

Do you know what you want to do? You should never try to figure out who you are—you should be settled on that. A bird doesn’t try to be a cow and a horse doesn’t attempt to act like a dog. Their internal instincts cause them to habitually be what they are, just as your internal instincts should stir you into who you are. The problem that exists with human beings is most people are only interested in changing who they are to be accepted by their critics.

At the end of the day, be solidified on who you are and not on what others want you to be. Don’t lose sight of your personal desires just because someone does not want to see you succeed. Below are four steps for moving on when the voice of your critics seems to get louder each minute.

1. Don’t respond to your critics.
You know you are paying too much when you are paying attention to your critics.

2. Don’t give up on your dream.
You can stop your day job, but don’t stop your day-dream.

3. Don’t stop your perseverance.
Usually a person discontinues in their perseverance when they anticipate a problem before there is one.

4. Give no credence to how many times you didn’t succeed.
Instead of looking at one failure after another, you should have amnesia after each failure. You can survive by forgetting.

These four basic steps are all that is needed when you are pursuing your goal. Remember it takes little effort to bend over and pick up the fruit that has fallen from a tree, which in most cases, is already rotten. However, it takes pushing, believing, creativity, and stretching to get the best fruit from the top of the tree, which is usually the juiciest. Do you want to bend over for the rotten things in life which are the leftovers no one wants, or are you willing to fight for the best things in life which only a few ever strive to attain?

When you apply these four steps as you engage a non-constructive critic, you will eventually end up winning after losing their bad advice.

The Power of Reach

reaching-200Where would you like to go? …Seriously!

What would you like to do? …No, really!

How much money would you like to make? …No kidding!

There is an element of your human physiology that is hidden deep within the crevasses of your capacity to think; to intellectually reason, to envision, and dream that cannot be touched with hands. And yet, it has the ability to reach far beyond all of your physical capabilities. It is the part of our limited human make-up, which only seems to hide our spiritual essence and creativeness. In fact, it is more real than the tangible or visible. It’s your imagination.

Your imagination is just as much a part of your thought process as the brain in your skull. It is a major key to success. It is the treasure of your psyche and consciousness that can shift you from mental slavery to unlimited mental freedom. Somewhere along the route of growing up, many of us were influenced to turn our thoughts to academics — squelching imagination to follow a more linear route to achievement. Imagination isn’t limited to inventors, artists or performing artists. All of us have this powerful creative ability stored in the fibers of our imaginations. Your imagination is the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images, or concepts of external objects not present to the senses. It is unequivocally the ability of the mind to be creative or resourceful.

Connecting imagination and creativity causes innovation to produce a unique twist to things already manufactured, to expand its potential, and also to cleverly come up with original ideas that have not been thought of. There are many things yet undiscovered only because imagination has not been unleashed to its full possibilities. Learn to listen not just with your ears, but with your entire being. People rarely ever go where they have not already been in their mind. The power of the imagination to reach further than you can go and do greater things you are capable of, will only happen as you feed your mind with positive capabilities.

There are so many factors that are used by individuals to be excuses for why they can’t dream, invent, or recreate. Fear, discouragement, negative talk, limited thinking, unbelief, and self-pity are all weapons that people turn on themselves to impede their own ability to appropriately use their imaginations. Our imagination enables us to break free from the slavery of limits and from the necessity to conform to natural forces.

Although the imagination has some limitations because it cannot control people and/or all circumstances, it is still quite powerful. The human race, absent of the imagination would not have been able to make the great leaps that it has over the last one hundred years; from sending a probe to Mars and landing it, to inventing 3D Copy Machines, open heart surgery…and so much more.. This realization further reinforces the belief that humans are the only species with enhanced imagination, as no other species has had similar advances.

The power of the imagination is one of the components given to humanity to mentally create what one might desire, so they can reach and stretch out there, into the void of space…by faith, to pull that created image into reality. The power of imagination impacts our lives in a multiplicity of ways. Imagination is specifically a human gift. To imagine is to simply have images in your head progressing in a sequence that is perhaps from memory or an unknown future. It can be us merely making out what we want to happen in our own future.

Release your imagination. Create your future world. You have the resource to do it, so why not go for it. Reach! Stretch! Make contact with what’s out there in your created world. Don’t be concerned about the “how,” and don’t make excuses for the lack of understanding about the why, because you do indeed possess imagination. Imagination doesn’t have to be understood, just believed. If you are not having the kind of success you want in your life, your imagination is in all probability at work with fear, doubt, anxiety and limited beliefs.

Through your imagination you learn to manage your environment. Your life is adorned with the thoughts in your head. Imagine dressing in your ideal way and watch how you will subconsciously gain a strength and tenacity to lose weight so you will look the way you imagine yourself to be. Remember, a star is born when a person realizes their interior strength, talent, and ability and uses them to benefit humanity.

What Do You Do When You’re Between Jobs?

Idleness between jobs
Idleness is as dangerously reckless as driving a car at 120 miles per hour down a bumpy dirt road. If the speed does not cause serious injury or possibly death, hitting one of the bumps will.

In retrospect, if you consider the cause or reason for some of your troubles, you will discover idleness at the root of most of them. The mind is a unique mechanism and it requires deliberate actions or else it will conjure up its own actions. You might think that when you take a vacation, your mind should do the same. Habits of the Self-Motivated

Self Motivated
Oprah Winfrey, Magic Johnson, J.K. Rollins, John Paul DeJoria, Michael Dell

What are you more interested in hearing, well said or well done? Many people do little or nothing to live their dreams, but they are great at trying to instruct others on how to live their dream. The odd thing about this is that these people are first-class at starting something but are quickly discouraged with the slightest opposition or challenge. They have an acute awareness of what to do, but they do not have a reliable competent stamina to plow through the discouragement and disappointments that show up when little or no progress is apparently made. Therefore, knowing what to do is not good enough. It is not what you know; it is what you do with what you know.

There are habits that separate those who are satisfied with an occasional win and those who ‘will’ themselves to win every time. Every effort demands and should be accompanied with a strong unrelenting aggression that gives one the edge when they are apparently outmatched by his or her opponent. Being less talented is not a guaranteed lost. Being stronger, more agile, athletic and even smarter than your opponent is not the prerequisite for success. These important ingredients will serve you well if you are aware of how to use them intelligently to your advantage. Unfortunately, knowledge with the absence of heart and spirit is just a know-it-all who has not developed the resilience to win in life.

What are these polished habits that separate those that simply have a desire to win and those who will themselves to win? Clearly, there must be a difference? Oftentimes, the various patterns of these two characters look similar until you get down to the stretch when the challenge is more intense and the intricacy increases as you approach the finish line. Luck has no place where skill and heart has collaborated to repudiate losing at any level, or with any game. The reason people like Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Vince Lombardi, Terry Bradshaw and presently, Kobe Bryant were and are considered among the best in their field, is that they all hated or hate to lose. What separates these great men from the other very good athletes that played before, during and after their time, is that they won multiple championships.

There are other men and women that fit the description of resilience and resolve that are in other fields. People such as such as Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, John Paul DeJoria, Larry Ellison, J.K. Rowling, and Michael Dell and there are many others, have beat unbelievable odds to reach the top.

It has been my observation that most people get ahead during the time that others waste time.
~Henry Ford

Allow me to list a few dynamic habits that will inevitably launch you into the orbit of your success where money is not the issue, but rather the chosen tool used to live your dream. This list starts with endurance, fortitude, tenacity, perseverance, enthusiasm, faith, boldness, mental toughness, courage, determination, consistency, persistence, self-control, creativity, a resistance to pressure, etc. I can go on but it may be a bit too much for you to handle because you may look at these important qualities as requiring far too much time to develop. I cannot, however, leave out the habit of discipline. Discipline is the one quality that can help you as you pursue achievement. Remember greatness is in you, and you will become the great person people will remember.

I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my Definite Purpose in life, therefore, I demand of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment, and I here and now promise to render such action.

Are You Ready to Think On Your Own?

Be careful to qualify the information you acquire from others because it just might set you up for failure. You will be surprised how easily influenced people are by information that they accept without ever validating or substantiating its authenticity. And, even if the information is true, your question should be, “Does this information apply to me?” The problem with this world is that too many people think alike. Far too many people are coerced into thinking like the other fellow. Moreover, it does not take much for this to happen. People involuntarily inject their thoughts into those they have gained influence over. Generally, people do not think about this until it is brought to their attention. Nevertheless, this happens too many times.

Countless companies today profess to seek employees who think “outside the box,” which is an expression that has become popular over the last fifteen years or more. However, there are mitigating circumstances about this popular cliché and not too many people who can find conformity as to what it is. The closest way of defining or describing this phrase is by saying that it is at its core, creativity. Creativity in this case could simply be finding new ways to solve old problems. However, companies want more than solution-oriented techniques; they want growth analysis that is perpetuated with proven methods that is ever adjusting in an ever changing economy. The survival of businesses today is going to take breaking ordinariness or routine and stretching beyond its industry. Experts in the same field are simply people married to methods. Experts are usually stuck in the mud and are unwilling to move beyond old standards.

I was recently talking to a young college student that mentioned his apprehension about a test that other students had informed him was so difficult to pass, that even the professor boasted of his test stats. There is nothing more discomforting than to receive information from your college professor on how seventy percent of his students flunked his first test. Most likely, seventy percent of the students that took this test were influenced by someone who most likely had failed. Yet, the other thirty percent paid no attention to the erroneous information and rose to the occasion, challenged the professor’s failure stats, and passed with excellence. The people who gave into the information about how difficult the test was, most likely came out of the test classroom demoralized, thus, validating their story.

Someone’s bad news doesn’t have to become yours. People seek to influence others, especially when it comes to someone attempting something they have failed at. When someone communicates to you their experience about a particular occurrence…good, bad, or indifferent, you are left with the mental stains of their failures or accomplishments, thus limiting your mental visual to their experience. Some things are better left unsaid. Don’t allow someone to volunteer information unsolicited because they may not tell you what you need to hear and may set you up for failure.

Who Is In Control Of Your World?

I will start this correspondence with a question, which I am sure everyone will have an answer. Who is in control of your world? This question should be asked often, especially when someone uses excuses for his or her shortfalls. In all my years of listening to people talk about their lives, without fail, they mention how someone else is to blame for their misfortune. When a person sees that their plans are not working out as anticipated, instead of detouring, they continue with the same plan hoping that things will turn around. If your business is not bringing in enough money, why do you sit back, hoping that customers will come through your door without you doing something to attract them? Exercising your brain by working smarter and harder can reap dividends; however, repeating the same regiment without creativity will not produce new results.

What or who do you blame when things are not going well? Whenever the blame game is played, responsibility is shifted or pointed in another direction other than oneself. People blame the economy for failed businesses – which may be true to some extent – but the bulk of the blame for a failed business should be on the owner. When you own a business, this says that you have taken control of your financial future. However, to shirk the responsibility of the results of its failure is pure cowardice. The business owner who takes photographs and signs autographs as the owner of a successful business, will accept little or no blame for his or her business failure. This same principle applies to a failed marriage. Just what does it mean to have irreconcilable differences? I know, it means two people unwilling to fulfill the vows they took on the day they got married. If you are going give an excuse for your marriage falling apart, at least own up to giving the truth concerning why your marriage did not succeed.

In hindsight, people mention how they would do things differently if they were given the chance. In actuality, people have second, third and subsequent occasions during the process of their weak efforts to make corrections and take control before things totally fall apart. However, many are too blind to see how they can right their wrongs because they are too busy looking for a way out of a ship that they can only view as sinking. Unfortunately, second chances do not exist; however, new opportunities do.

When a person sits down in their most comfortable chair in their living room, they usually take control of the universal remote and turn on the television or CD player. They have declared their kingship by sitting on their throne while holding the scepter (remote control) in their hand. They are looking for personal gratification of being entertained while watching television. Like the kings of old, if the king was not amused by the court jester, the king would ask for the next act while sitting on his throne. People have the same experiences everyday to control their world. Our remote control helps us to control the elements before us and we never look to blame anyone while we are in control. If you do not like what is on a particular channel, you change it. No big deal, right? In plain English, what you do not like, you change, because the results are in your control.

Is it fair to say that God is in control of everything concerning your life? No. I am not taking any power away from God because that is impossible, but I am placing the power of your life back into your hands. If God is in control of everything, including your life, then He should be blamed. However, we have to look at life from the standpoint of who is making the decisions for you. Did God have you to overextend yourself financially? Did God sign your name on the loan application? Did God make you buy the things that you truly could not afford? Is God responsible for your procrastination? Did God make you say “I Do” to the person you married? I can go on, but I think you get the message. People, and Christians alike, feel they are genetically predisposed to making excuses and shifting blame away from themselves because our progenitor failed to face up to his failure. According to the Bible, Adam, God’s created son, failed to own up to his blunder and blamed Eve for his sin of disobedience. The principle of first things, is that whatever is in the original (Adam) will show up in the successors. To use this as an excuse for failure is completely absurd.

My attempt is not to give you a Bible lesson. However, I am only pointing out the fallacies that people generally believe, which are not Biblically substantiated. Adam’s rebellion was not based on experiences because he had only known obedience up to the point of his treason. Adam’s disobedience to God was not God’s fault either. Adam’s failure was predicated on the ability to make personal decisions, which he failed to make the right one. The truth of the matter is that you are genetically predisposed to controlling the outcome of your own life. Your fate rests in your hands, not in God’s. Your decisions are your decisions, and no one can take the blame for your personal decisions.

Flip Wilson, the famed hilarious comedian, oftentimes played a character named, Geraldine. Whenever Geraldine did something inappropriate, she would say, “The devil made me do it!” It may be comedic, but it is also crippling. If you do not control your world, your life will be placed in the hands of those who care nothing about you. You will never be allowed to stretch out and explore all the possibilities life has to offer. Refuse to be a slave in your own world!

The most important element to a successful life

I believe that the single most important element to having a successful life, which is far more important than having success in business, is recognizing the key ingredient in self-development. Each person is responsible for creating his or her own world.

We were all created to be creative. People are not creatures of circumstances, they are creators of them. When this concept has been accepted and embraced, the individual will then realize that he or she is completely responsible for the outcome of their lives. This means that the individual will not shift the blame or responsibility for outcomes onto someone other than themselves.

Creativity is the key element in self-development. Imagine what your world can become, opposed to what it is. Creativity begins with imagination. How often have you heard or may have said yourself, “I never planned my life to turn out this way.”

However, in essence, whatever your life has become is exactly what you have planned. There is an old maxim that says, “When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” You decide what you want to become, not your circumstances.

If you do not like your life or the direction it is moving in, change your life by changing your course. Making a few decisions will help you move closer toward your goal of what you want your world to resemble. Once you accept the responsibility for your world, you will realize that you can always change it.
