Moving On Means Letting Go

let-it-go-postAre you at a place in life where you feel like your crutch is no longer available, and you’re finding it difficult to move on?

If you are going to move forward with your life after a disappointing divorce, a failed business, or a job that just doesn’t meet your personal expectations, you have to let it go. Your moving forward is only impeded by your past if you can’t let go of it. Some things are difficult to release if you still see them as options. If an old acquaintance still hangs around in your head, it’s because you haven’t released him or her from your heart.

Look For Your Motivation In The Most Unlikely Place

motivation-blog-postHow often do you find that you see people, and even a friend who seems to be up when things are well and down when things aren’t going well, or you know — awful? To be kind, let’s just say they are often downhearted, and in need of some motivation from without. To succeed in life, motivation must come from within, to succeed on the battlefield of war, motivation must be sought out of a will to live, and to succeed in sports, motivation comes as the result of practice.

The Intrinsic Quality of the Successful

iqs-200-postIf you are waiting for someone to substantiate that you are a success, you are waiting for the wrong information. If you are looking around to see the symbols of your success to validate whether or not you are a success, you are looking at the wrong things.

Internal success far outweighs external success. Knowing who you are and living a life of fulfillment is far more valuable than all the money in the world. In fact, having a powerful sense of self-awareness, and an intuitive knowledge of who you truly are without the need of outside influences to help you secure your mental sense of self-worth, is a priceless commodity.

I am not saying wealth and material things are not important, because that would not be true. On the contrary, money and material things are an absolute necessity if one is going to survive in this world. Riches may not bring permanent happiness, but neither will poverty. I have seen wealthy people miserable and unhappy, though they possess all the money and material things a person can dream of having. I have also seen people living with just the bare basic necessities of life, and they are just as miserable and unhappy as the person with everything.

Therefore, money and material things are not the true symbols of success. The Good Book says that a person who cannot rule their own soul is like a city without walls. This means that the person’s life and all they may have built throughout their lifetime is completely vulnerable and open to assaults. These people usually end up losing everything because they most likely have stepped on (not over) many friends and associates just to get what they thought would validate them in the eyes of people. A person succeeding in making money is not an indicator that the person has succeeded with controlling their insatiable appetites of lasciviousness.

Your self-image is a product of your experiences, failures, triumphs, humiliations, and breakthroughs. Through these experiences, you create a picture of yourself and most importantly, you believe that it is a true depiction of who you are. Because you believe your self-image is accurate, you base your actions on it. If your actions lead to failure or success, your self-image is then is responsible. There is a reason why willpower does not work, and why it is like a snap-back effect. Your “will” is powered by something other than you simply making a decision to do something. Your mind controls your body, but your will controls your mind.

When people use willpower, what they are actually doing is going to battle against their self-image. However, the self-image is always stronger because it is their subconscious belief. To further explain my point, I want you to view yourself as a rubber band. When you stretch the rubber band, it is similar to your willpower. If you think you can go around for a full day as a fully stretched out rubber band, you are sadly mistaken. At some point during the course of the day, something will distract you—and you will let up on the pressure. When that happens, the rubber band snaps back to its true shape. This is what happens when you use your will power to mentally change what you think about yourself without you changing your intrinsic core belief of who you are. Woody Allen said, “My only regret is that I’m not someone else.”

What a sad way of thinking about yourself. You can make all the money your little heart desires, but you better know why you are trying to make money, because money itself will not be the remedy to your lack of fulfillment. This is one of the reasons why so many people experience the yo-yo effect. The will is designed to do what it does, but it does not make you who you are. If you learn to re-engineer your self-image based on a God-consciousness, you will permanently expand it, and there will be no more snap-back effect.

A neighbor was befriending a child in the neighborhood.
“I understand that you have twins in your home. Are you one of them?”
The boy slowly put his head down and said, “No sir! I’m just a spare.”

Once you learn how to activate and release God’s power in every situation, you will find yourself moving beyond obstacles that previously frustrated you. You will actually develop an unstoppable God (self)-confidence and a heightened excitement about your future. Like most people, your will is to be successful, but it does not mean because your will is for success, that you will obtain it. You have to go further than just to will it; you have to believe it so that no approval would be necessary to make your life work. There is no doubt in my mind that if you are a success; the only thing I must do is to believe that you are.

Now, let me re-address the subject of money. It’s right to make money and even ethically there is nothing wrong with making a lot of money. Money may not grow on trees, but it does grow from talent and knowledge. Concentration, Creativity, and Negotiation are three important elements of having a successful business. The ability to take an idea, analyze business opportunities, and evaluate business options is a major attribute use. When your heart is balanced, it takes a conscientious effort to ensure that your mind coincides with your heart.

Four Steps To Help You Move On When Critics Want You To Stop

criticism-postOnce you make the decision to go all out and make something happen, all the components of various materials conspire to make it happen, and every naysayer and malicious person connives to block it from happening.

Opposition usually doesn’t rear its ugly head until a person is serious about achieving the goals of their life. Have you ever noticed those you were so were true friends, remained so, until you made a decision to move your life in a positive direction which did not include them? All of a sudden your so-called-friend was trying to sabotage your success by giving you every excuse they could think of, in hopes it would influence you not to continue in your personal pursuit of living your dream. They are discouragers not encouragers. The personal interest of this type of person is not to promote someone, but rather to secretly demote them in subtle ways.

I cannot recall a time when I was the brunt of a joke, as much as when I was twenty-three years old preparing to end my time of service in the United States Army. A group of constituents and close acquaintances came together to throw a farewell celebration for me. However, it turned out to be more like a Dean Martin Celebrity Roast Night. Some cracked jokes and laughed about my exiting the military. They laughed about me having no prospects for employment, and they sentenced my future to be as one receiving public assistance and eventually finding myself back in an Army uniform after my dreams had crashed. Nevertheless, they were wrong.

They were wrong for two reasons. One, I never had any doubt or apprehension concerning my decision to get out of the military;…and two, I did not set out to prove them wrong and to prove to them I could make it without big Uncle Sam watching over my shoulder. Sometimes, a joke can be a cover for how someone truly feels about you and the decision you are making with your life. With today’s cell phone technology, you can text a joke to a person about him or herself, and then put LOL on the end; and they may not ever catch the person’s true intent.

When a person makes every attempt to bring you down, it is because they are already beneath you. So, don’t get mad, get glad…because at least you have something for them to joke about. How else can they laugh? Their life is so miserable they need something to laugh about just to keep from crying.

Do you know what you want to do? You should never try to figure out who you are—you should be settled on that. A bird doesn’t try to be a cow and a horse doesn’t attempt to act like a dog. Their internal instincts cause them to habitually be what they are, just as your internal instincts should stir you into who you are. The problem that exists with human beings is most people are only interested in changing who they are to be accepted by their critics.

At the end of the day, be solidified on who you are and not on what others want you to be. Don’t lose sight of your personal desires just because someone does not want to see you succeed. Below are four steps for moving on when the voice of your critics seems to get louder each minute.

1. Don’t respond to your critics.
You know you are paying too much when you are paying attention to your critics.

2. Don’t give up on your dream.
You can stop your day job, but don’t stop your day-dream.

3. Don’t stop your perseverance.
Usually a person discontinues in their perseverance when they anticipate a problem before there is one.

4. Give no credence to how many times you didn’t succeed.
Instead of looking at one failure after another, you should have amnesia after each failure. You can survive by forgetting.

These four basic steps are all that is needed when you are pursuing your goal. Remember it takes little effort to bend over and pick up the fruit that has fallen from a tree, which in most cases, is already rotten. However, it takes pushing, believing, creativity, and stretching to get the best fruit from the top of the tree, which is usually the juiciest. Do you want to bend over for the rotten things in life which are the leftovers no one wants, or are you willing to fight for the best things in life which only a few ever strive to attain?

When you apply these four steps as you engage a non-constructive critic, you will eventually end up winning after losing their bad advice.

A Life That Inspires

inspire200Is your life an inspiration to others, or does your presence trigger perspiration in those you come in contact with?

It is important to understand the quality of life one may have does not necessarily translate into others seeing them as a quality person. A person of excellence and moral standards is inspiring to most people. Inspiration is derived from somebody or something that inspires someone to be creative in thought, or it is the quality of being stimulated to creative activity.

Have you ever visited a business establishment and asked the secretary or host a question, and they made you feel as though you were bothering them? Today, this seems to be the quality of service people are giving. For example, when I look at the quality of work at many construction sites, it is atrocious – to say the least. Even if the work is incomplete, the contractors want full payment for an incomplete job. What is worse, they do not care about the quality of work they have produced.

What is the quality of your work or business? Do you take pride in what you do? There is a restaurant my wife and I frequently visit, and I cannot ever recall going into their restroom and finding it dirty. Generally, if the restroom is filthy at an eating facility, the chances are pretty high the cooks and management have a low standard in terms of the quality of food and service they provide. In fact, this type of restaurant may not be a good place to eat, if you want to survive.

I happen to own a casual dining restaurant. One of the things I continually gauge is the cleanliness of our facility, ensuring a high level of service is maintained. The same principle applies to my house, church, and my own quality of work. My motto is, “In Pursuit of Excellence.”

While growing up in the sixties, there was a commercial about a Zenith product which has stayed with me to this day. Its slogan was, “The quality goes in before the name goes on.” The indication was that unless the product met the company’s quality standard, the product did not warrant the name of the company. They only wanted their name associated with a quality product. I certainly would not want my name associated with substandard work. Your work speaks volumes about you as a person. People should gain inspiration from your work and your life. Make sure you place the highest quality in your business, work, or services before you tag your name on either.

You cannot change other people, but you can change yourself. It is very easy to focus on the faults of others; but it is rather uncomfortable to confront your own. People are generally running from themselves, living in constant fear, and are apathetic about confronting the challenges which oppose their dreams. Isn’t it worth the battle to live the quality life others would be proud to? This is not a selfish, egotistical approach to living. To the contrary, this is no more than a person who wants a better life for him or herself and their loved ones.

Picasso, Michael Angelo, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Aristotle, Corrie Ten Boom, Maya Angelou, Mother Teresa, Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Oral Roberts, and of course there are more. These people and others in their class are an inspiration to people everywhere. Their lives and works speak loud and clear as to the excellence they portrayed during their lifetime. Though some have died, their names and their works still serve as an inspiration.

Are you included in this list of inspiring people? If not, you should want to inspire others so you can leave your mark on this world before you’re gone.

Why Do What You Always Wanted To Do?

wanted200When will you be ready to live the life you really believe you were destined to live? When will you finally decide to get up from your slumber and get on with the business of losing weight? When will you go back to school and get the college degree you always wanted to earn, or start that restaurant with your proven family recipes, or even open that merchandise store?

It is a travesty when I hear all the stories of people who found and used every excuse to avoid reaching for that one thing they always wanted to do. I can only imagine how it must feel to arrive at the end of your life, and realize how much you cheated yourself out of your best life. I say, I can only imagine because I decided over thirty years ago, I will only die once, but I get an opportunity daily to reach for my goals, to go to places others only dream of, and to enjoy the life I have. Why would I want to be stagnated by others whose only desire is for me to be as underachieving as they are?

I make no apologies for the amount of money I make, the best hotels I’ve stayed in, the cars I drive, the many books I’ve written, the famous and wealthy people I’ve met and spent time with, the amount of money I’ve given to religious charities, …the list goes on. And, I will continue doing these things and reaching for more until I have exhaled my last breath.

Why not go for it? Why not do all you believe God has placed in you to do? What are you afraid of? I believe one of the reasons why most people are so sad and unfulfilled is they have not figured out their happiness is attached to their purpose. I asked one middle age woman once, when do you feel you are at your happiest? To my surprise, she said when she is crocheting. When I looked at all the creative designs she has crocheted, I was amazed. In fact, I actually purchased several from her. I asked her if she ever thought of selling them since it could help her with the extra income she needed. She said she had only thought of giving them away. I replied, that sounds noble, but did you know the thing you love to do most is designed to feed you? Therefore, your labor of love is supposed to support you financially. She later took my advice, started selling her crocheted quilts, and averaged an additional $1400 a month in income.

Why stay miserable, settling for a life you know brings you no joy at all? Don’t give up on your dream because that would mean you’ve given up on life. You have so many awesome intrinsic qualities. Don’t sentence your life to a life of mediocrity because a few years have passed without you accomplishing anything worthwhile. Get up, and refuse to sit on a couch of ease. You shouldn’t want to stay in your house with your window shades down, blocking the sunlight; hoping someone will come by and spend some time with you in your misery. In case you haven’t noticed, you may be deliberately trying to make other people feel responsible for you making a decision to do nothing with your life.

I understand it is your life to do with as you please; however, it is not your right to make other people feel guilty because they don’t want to live their lives alongside yours. It is difficult to follow a parked car. If you are not going anywhere in life, can you please move out of the way so others can get by you without the threat of tripping over you? If you want to waste your time, why would I want to give you the opportunity of wasting mine? Stop suffocating your dream under the pillows of discouragement and disappointments. Both of these are a part of life. Haven’t you heard all success begins with failure? If you never give yourself the chance to fail, you will never reap the rewards of knowing how to get up again.

Let me tell you a story about John, a young man who really loved to run. John lived in a small town with a population of approximately 15,000 people, along with a couple of hogs and cows. John ran about three to four times a week. He didn’t do it simply to stay in shape; he did it because he loved it. At the ripe old age of 87 years, John decided to run the marathon hosted in a large city located about 220 miles away from where he lived. John first started entertaining the thought of running the marathon when he was about 55 years old, however, he was too busy making a living to take care of his family. He kept putting it off, and putting it off, although he would runs for miles for enjoyment. At seventy-five years old he decided he was going to enter the marathon, but his wife fell ill. Several years later, John’s wife died. John continued to walk and run for miles during the course of a week just to stay in shape.

One day, John’s only son came to visit him and told him about the marathon kicking off in two months. John thought for a moment and sighed, “I’m 87 years old; what can I do at my age?” “Dad, you are in better shape than most 40 year olds. Why don’t you go for it?! I took the liberty and signed you up.”, John’s son said. John said, “I always wanted to run a marathon, but I’m too old now and it will take too long for me to finish.” His son said, “Dad when I was only 10 years old, you taught me one of the greatest lessons of all, when you spoke to me about finishing last in a race.” You said, “it matters not how long it takes to finish what you’ve started, what matters is that you finish.”

So at 87 years old, John fulfilled his lifelong aspiration and ran and finished his first and only marathon. John died later that year with running shoes on his feet, as he sat on his porch in his chair, ready to run that evening. After running the marathon, John would hardly speak of anything else. John died doing what made him happy.

It matters not how long it takes to finish what you’ve started, what matters is that you finish.

They Said You Can’t Do What?

can't-do200I have learned ideas are a dime a dozen, and it takes more than a dime to develop just one of your ideas. This may be why some great ideas stay locked away in the minds of normal geniuses who are not interested in investing their time and resources in something they feel cost too much. Having a great idea is one thing; having an idea and fortitude to make your idea happen is another.

The Power of Reach

reaching-200Where would you like to go? …Seriously!

What would you like to do? …No, really!

How much money would you like to make? …No kidding!

There is an element of your human physiology that is hidden deep within the crevasses of your capacity to think; to intellectually reason, to envision, and dream that cannot be touched with hands. And yet, it has the ability to reach far beyond all of your physical capabilities. It is the part of our limited human make-up, which only seems to hide our spiritual essence and creativeness. In fact, it is more real than the tangible or visible. It’s your imagination.

Your imagination is just as much a part of your thought process as the brain in your skull. It is a major key to success. It is the treasure of your psyche and consciousness that can shift you from mental slavery to unlimited mental freedom. Somewhere along the route of growing up, many of us were influenced to turn our thoughts to academics — squelching imagination to follow a more linear route to achievement. Imagination isn’t limited to inventors, artists or performing artists. All of us have this powerful creative ability stored in the fibers of our imaginations. Your imagination is the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images, or concepts of external objects not present to the senses. It is unequivocally the ability of the mind to be creative or resourceful.

Connecting imagination and creativity causes innovation to produce a unique twist to things already manufactured, to expand its potential, and also to cleverly come up with original ideas that have not been thought of. There are many things yet undiscovered only because imagination has not been unleashed to its full possibilities. Learn to listen not just with your ears, but with your entire being. People rarely ever go where they have not already been in their mind. The power of the imagination to reach further than you can go and do greater things you are capable of, will only happen as you feed your mind with positive capabilities.

There are so many factors that are used by individuals to be excuses for why they can’t dream, invent, or recreate. Fear, discouragement, negative talk, limited thinking, unbelief, and self-pity are all weapons that people turn on themselves to impede their own ability to appropriately use their imaginations. Our imagination enables us to break free from the slavery of limits and from the necessity to conform to natural forces.

Although the imagination has some limitations because it cannot control people and/or all circumstances, it is still quite powerful. The human race, absent of the imagination would not have been able to make the great leaps that it has over the last one hundred years; from sending a probe to Mars and landing it, to inventing 3D Copy Machines, open heart surgery…and so much more.. This realization further reinforces the belief that humans are the only species with enhanced imagination, as no other species has had similar advances.

The power of the imagination is one of the components given to humanity to mentally create what one might desire, so they can reach and stretch out there, into the void of space…by faith, to pull that created image into reality. The power of imagination impacts our lives in a multiplicity of ways. Imagination is specifically a human gift. To imagine is to simply have images in your head progressing in a sequence that is perhaps from memory or an unknown future. It can be us merely making out what we want to happen in our own future.

Release your imagination. Create your future world. You have the resource to do it, so why not go for it. Reach! Stretch! Make contact with what’s out there in your created world. Don’t be concerned about the “how,” and don’t make excuses for the lack of understanding about the why, because you do indeed possess imagination. Imagination doesn’t have to be understood, just believed. If you are not having the kind of success you want in your life, your imagination is in all probability at work with fear, doubt, anxiety and limited beliefs.

Through your imagination you learn to manage your environment. Your life is adorned with the thoughts in your head. Imagine dressing in your ideal way and watch how you will subconsciously gain a strength and tenacity to lose weight so you will look the way you imagine yourself to be. Remember, a star is born when a person realizes their interior strength, talent, and ability and uses them to benefit humanity.

In The Hunt For One Thing!

200-one-thing What does Tiger Woods, Donald Trump, Michael Jordan, Warren Buffet, Oprah Winfrey, Mark Victor Hansen, and Dr. Ben Carson all have in common?

I know; you may agree with the fact that they are all rich and famous. And, you are absolutely correct in your personal assumption. You could even say that each of these individuals have achieved something notable. I will not argue with you about that. However, there is something else…a quality that these and other not-so-rich and famous people have acquired. They have all discovered the one personal characteristic that billions of people have yet to discover. You heard correctly, I said Billions with a B.

People spend their entire lives thinking of what could make them happy. Regrettably, over ninety percent of the population thinks having more than enough money would make them the happiest people on the planet. I personally differ with that opinion. I am not saying that these people do not know what they want, but what I am saying, is that they haven’t the faintest idea of what they need to actually fulfill their lives. The only reason an overwhelming percentage of the population, especially those living in the United States, feel like money is the solution to their misery is because they have not discovered their true passion. Hundreds of people have won hundreds of thousands and even tens to hundreds of millions of dollars in some lottery game, and yet in five years or less, close to eighty percent of those winners are broke.

The previous list of people I mentioned, have one thing in common, and it’s not money. What they all have in common is that they have discovered the one thing that lights up their eyes more than money itself. Money is important but not that important. It’s just unfortunate that in this nation, money is how we keep score. Purpose, destiny, passion and/or a dream is more valuable than money itself to those who breathe their ‘one’ thing. It is what keeps them getting up in the morning when nothing is going right for them.

When you realize what it is you were called to do, you’ll find that you would rather be happy in the right place doing what you love, with hardly anything going right for you at that moment, than to be in the wrong place and feeling miserable when everything is picture perfect. You can never be yourself until you know yourself.

“The people who make it to the top – whether they’re musicians, or great chefs, or corporate honchos – are addicted to their calling … [they] are the ones who’d be doing whatever it is they love, even if they weren’t being paid.”

~Quincy Jones

So, have you discovered what it is you were called to do? Some people can have an inkling of their true calling, but for them there are too many obstacles, too many distractions, and too many people standing in their way. The cost is too much for them to pay and they feel they have too much to lose.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said something so profound in one of his speeches that when I read it, it dropped deep within my soul and exploded and I have never recovered from this truth, neither do I ever want to recover. This quote helped me to focus my life with purpose and escape the mediocrity of a blurred vision.

“Deep down in our non-violent creed is the conviction there are some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they’re worth dying for. And if a man happens to be 36-years-old, as I happen to be, some great truth stands before the door of his life–some great opportunity to stand up for that which is right.
A man might be afraid his home will get bombed, or he’s afraid that he will lose his job, or he’s afraid that he will get shot, or beat down by state troopers, and he may go on and live until he’s 80. He’s just as dead at 36 as he would be at 80…”

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Never, ever apologize for doing what you love and what you believe you are called to do, even if what you love doesn’t meet the specifications of a loved one. Never settle for a paycheck to ignore your passion…which has no equal value to your dream-worth. And, never let anyone talk you out of what you believe God has placed deep down in your heart. What you know to do in your heart has greater value and purpose than what you think you know to do with your life.

If I were you, I would not rest from my search of discovering my purpose until I was totally convinced of what I was created to perform on this planet, or life just will not have the same worth.
