Do You Love Or Like What You Do?

Love your Job textThe title of this post is in the form of a question. I believe that success is the difference between what you love to do and what you like to do. I have never seen or known of anyone who exponentially succeeds at their business, job, or life who didn’t love what they do. I also, have never known of any successful person who didn’t respect his or her time.

There is something extraordinarily interesting to watch a person do what they love doing. On the other hand, there is nothing more disinteresting as to watch a person do what they absolutely feel they have to do without applying any real energy in the process. Success is the difference between loving what you do or simply liking what one does. If life is a bore, then you can believe work makes life that much more boring.

I love waking up in the morning—ready to approach a new day with new exciting adventures waiting for me to experience. I look forward to pioneering new territory and bold endeavors. I can’t imagine what life would be like if I didn’t have a purpose or agenda. When God wakes me up, I get to use the creative ability He gave me to create or to format my day. I discovered the reason successful and creative people love staying up at night to work on ideas as much as getting up in the morning to go back at their project.

I remember sitting in the lobby at the office of a friend of mine, who was on the phone at the time while I was waiting for him. At the lobby desk were two women that stood out to me because there appeared to be such a great contrast between their demeanors and body language. The woman who I assumed was the higher paid secretary appeared more friendly and professional than the other woman who was the receptionist. Sometimes, our tendency is to associate performance with pay grade, but not so in this case.

The person that appeared livelier and more professional about her appearance and how she approached doing her job was actually the receptionist. The secretary looked nice, but every movement of hers suggested she didn’t want to be there. She was bland in her response on the phone, she didn’t greet others with a smile, and there was nothing about her that would make people feel comfortable in approaching her. In fact, I saw one man who seemed to wait for her to turn her back so he could ask the receptionist a question. To me, this would imply that her body language was as intrusive and offensive than someone with halitosis.

After the secretary took me into my friend’s office, I asked him a question about her demeanor. He said, “Funny you would ask that question. My partner and I spoke of moving her to another office with less traffic.”

You see, the receptionist exuded personality and vigor because she loved what she was doing. People who are in business or simply a domestic engineer, if you do not love what you’re doing the odds of you succeeding in that field is slim to none. To love or to like is the difference between surviving and striving. Your energy level will always be low when you don’t want to be somewhere or when you don’t like the job you have. For those who enjoy their job, life, or business, there seems to never be enough hours in a day.

People who like what they do, work to live; people who love what they do, live to work. People who do not understand life and how it works are oftentimes envious of those who do. Low energy people think that the person who is full of energy and excitement about what they do is over doing it and that much effort is not necessary. When you find yourself pondering on thoughts like this, usually somewhere in your subconscious, you believe that all financially successful people are greedy. This is the furthest thing from the truth!

If you don’t love what you do by committing your life and energy to it, it’s not worth doing. When you hear of a house flipper buying houses and fixing them up for a person to buy, it’s not just for the money. People like this will go from one project to another because they love the challenge. Their motivation is to see their creative value put into a dilapidated house that will then cause others to want to buy their work. To love what you do has to have a motivation that is beyond money. Successful people have a motivation to help others, to be creative, and they ooze purpose. A person will work harder for their children and legacy than they will for only themselves.

If you can find joy in your work, it will become more than a job; it will be a daily adventure. If you can change your attitude, which is that small thing that matter, you will be promoted from mediocrity to excellence. Success will always be the experience with the person who loves what they do.

Don’t Half Live Your Dream

MB_text_3-13-15I’ve discovered that Success is not a simple matter; it cannot be determined merely by the amount of money and material possessions you have. Things can make you happy temporarily, but they are a poor substitute for inner peace and happiness. To achieve one’s ultimate purpose should be one’s earthly pursuits.

We all want to be happy and successful, especially financially. We work at it. We strive for it. We know it when we have it, and we know when we are not happy. It seems so elusive sometimes. We often seek happiness in all the wrong places. We run to substitutes for happiness that often makes us feel even more unhappy.

A millionaire who is not personally content with his or her life is not truly successful. I do not mean that if you have a billion dollars you cannot be considered a success however, we usually make the mistake of thinking that happiness is related somehow to our financial condition, or we think if our circumstances get better, we will be happy.

Happiness has absolutely nothing to do with circumstances. Two people with identical circumstances can have vastly dissimilar levels of contentment. One is happy and the other is not. You can have a bias for depression or a bias for happiness. When you get up each morning you will make a pre-decision for or against happiness.

Every person who succeeds in life does so by persevering in the face of adversity and by continually applying themselves to their vision. No one comes into this earth with their talents and abilities fully functional, but instead they dedicate years of their lives to developing them. Faith is a necessity for your purpose to come to fruition. Remember, faith doesn’t make things easy, it makes things possible.

When you are fed a steady diet of cynicism and skepticism, it may be hard to speak anything positive. This constant intake of negativity affects your perspective and your communication. The way you see things is what you come to believe about them.

If you are progressive in your thinking, then always enduring and overcoming challenges is the evolution of your unadulterated self. You are more powerful when you know who you are, and you are then more courageous. Once you conquer one mountain, you will know that another one stands in your way. Every time you have a top of the mountain experience, you then find yourself at the bottom of another mountain. Life is full of challenges, and dreams make the journey that much more pleasurable when achieved.

The key to living your dream is meeting limited circumstances with thoughts without limits. It’s not about how little you have; it is about the amazing things you can do with what you do have. Jesus turned 2 fish and five loaves of bread into a full course meal for 5,000 men, and He fed 4,000 with 7 loaves of bread and fish. It’s not about how much you have; it is about God’s ability residing in you to multiply what you have.

Stake claim to your dream and stop haphazardly pursuing something you were created to do. The present moment is the only time there is. No matter what time it is, both the past and future exist when you bring them into your present moment. You can decide to live your life from your past pain or you can live forward. Understand this moment, NOW! Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow. There’s nothing more powerful than a person who knows how to contain and control their personal power and not let it seep out.

Every time the present moment is ignored, there is enormous loss; and every time the present moment is seized there is immense gain. If a person advances with self-confidence in the direction of his or her dreams, and believes they are possible, and endeavors to live the life which he or she has imagined, they will meet with uncommon success at an unforeseen hour.

Put Your Mind On Your Money

MB blog_textSome people excel with money and some don’t – Which One Are You? Are you embarrassed by your money skills? If you are sick and tired of doing money the old way—read this! If you need to increase your income, let’s start by discovering how much money you already have with your present income by discovering how not to make your debtors richer.

“I believe that the power to make money is a gift from God.”
~John D. Rockerfeller

Most people have it all wrong about money in America. Money is the one common thread that ties all the nations of the world together. Poverty is the perversion of prosperity, and the parody of financial freedom is debt. A dollar saved is a value, a dollar invested produces increase. What money comes in today will always reflect what went out yesterday.

The art of creating wealth works in the reverse of how one creates debt. The improper use of money creates debt. Debt is the result of what you cannot afford. Wealth is the result of the appropriate management of money. People have it all wrong, a person doesn’t have to possess a lot of money to create wealth—it is having the knowledge and using it, which causes your money to work to produce wealth for you.

Can You Handle the Truth? Most people aren’t enthusiastic about hearing the truth, especially when it challenges their self-imposed inadequacies. These people concoct fantasies in their mind to substantiate their defects. Now of course, the stories are not true, but they are stories they can believe, which shift the blame of underperforming from themselves to some other person or condition.

Henry Ford once said, “The man that believes he can and the man who believes he can’t are both right.” Most people have had money problems and most people do not give up on life, they continue to march on until they can either find a solution or make up another story. These concocted stories become the reasons or excuses for the lack of passion, which is in my opinion, sheer fear. There is no easier lie to believe than the one that places the blame on God.

You must initially see that debt and financial struggles (poverty) go hand in hand. Please understand that my aim is not to humiliate or beat you down if you find yourself in this predicament, I simply want to give to you a simple plan to better equip yourself and your family to be financially secure. This doesn’t mean you’re going to become a millionaire over night, but you can be en route to fulfilling your dreams and having more money, even if it is not a million dollars in your bank account.

They say that money isn’t everything, and that’s true—but look at how many things it is. In our society, money is everything. For Americans, it is how we keep score. A man’s treatment of money is the most decisive test of his character—how he makes it and how he spends it. Money doesn’t change a person; it simply exposes him or her for who they already are. If money makes you feel better about yourself, then you neither understand yourself nor the reason for creating wealth.

The Bible says, “…For the love of money is the root of all evil.” This verse is often misquoted—it doesn’t say that money is evil. The personal secular methods that help a man acquire a fortune are the very ones that can keep him from enjoying it. Money itself is not evil, nor is it good. Both good and evil can be done with money. The old maxim is, “Money may not bring happiness…”, but I say, “Neither will poverty.”

When a man respects the potential of money and learns to control its influence, he becomes a wise man. Are you a good money manager? Yes you are! All most people need is a little motivation and a little help, and they are on their way to being a blessing to family, church, and to others.

In just three to six months, you can free up some of your cash which can go towards other bills if, you can believe it. The basic requirement needed for debt reduction is for you to “Start.” Learn and apply the spiritual principle of giving. I have heard people say, “But I don’t know where to begin.” My answer is simple. How did you start getting into debt? You started collecting credit cards and systematically using them. Reverse the process. Start with plastic surgery by cutting up your credit cards, then collect and arrange your bills and pay them systematically.

Do not be afraid to examine how you got into your financial mess. Retrace your steps and you will end up where you started—debt free.

Water Your Own Grass

water200I once had a conversation with a gentleman who appeared as if he were in his mid thirties and spoke as though he was disgruntled about how unfair he thought this world was to the unfortunate. Obviously, he viewed himself as one of those unfortunate people who never seems to get a break. You could easily pick up his attitude toward people who seem to have it all, because he mentioned how most of the wealthy people haven’t a clue about what it means to ration their food—while staying up and burning the candle on both ends to make a buck.

After hearing this young man voice one displeasure after another, I asked him a question. “Do you know any of these people you’re speaking of, because you sound like you know some of them very well?” “No, I just know they will never understand what it’s like to struggle financially”, he said. “If I had their money, I would be just as creative and innovative to increase my bottom line as they are”, he exclaimed.

The best of us have been on the side of this young man before, thinking the grass is much greener on the other side. The truth of the matter is, the situation a person may be experiencing is the reason they may ignore or become blind to where they are at the moment. It may be true you don’t have all the skills of your coworker, or your spouse may not look like Raquel Welch or Denzel Washington in their prime, nor do you have the youth, net worth, and success of Mark Zuckerberg, but you do not need to compare your life to anyone else’s life.

It is not the net worth that matters most; it is the self worth which is supreme. Your ability is incredible and your knowledge is extensive. My only concern is convincing you that it is. You possess the same qualities as others. However, your focus should be on developing you, not you attempting to live your life similar to the way others are living theirs.

Stop looking at your neighbor’s lawn and start taking care of your own, by fertilizing it and giving it sufficient water. You will discover your grass is just as green, if not greener. When you look from a distance at someone else’s life, you may be surprised to know everything that glitter’s isn’t gold. It only appears as if they don’t have a financial worry in the world, or their marriage is so good, it’s like trying to break the Da Vinci code.

Things may not be going so well right now in your life or business, but it doesn’t mean things will remain the same throughout your lifetime. Situations, circumstances, and problems are all scenarios subject to change. You may not need a miracle to straighten things out in your life; you may only need a little focus, dedication, and belief in your ability, and you can turn things around.

There was a business executive who was deep in debt and could see no way out. Creditors were closing in on him. Suppliers were demanding payment. He sat on the park bench, head in hands, wondering if anything could save his company from bankruptcy.

Suddenly an old man appeared before him. ”Young man, I can see something is troubling you,” he said. After listening to the executive’s woes, the old man said, “I believe I can help you.”

He asked the man his name, wrote out a check, and pushed it into his hand saying, “Take this money. Meet me here exactly one year from today, and you can pay me back at that time.” Then he turned and disappeared as quickly as he had come.

The business executive saw in his hand a check for $500,000, signed by John D. Rockefeller; then, one of the richest men in the world!

“I can erase my money worries in an instant!” he realized. But instead, the executive decided not to cash the check, but to put the check in his safe. Just knowing it was there might give him the strength to work out a way to save his business, he thought.

With renewed optimism, he negotiated better deals and extended terms of payment. He closed several big sales. Within a few months, he was out of debt and making money once again.

Exactly one year later, he returned to the park with the same check, un-cashed. At the agreed-upon time, the old man appeared. But just as the executive was about to hand back the check and share his success story, a nurse came running up and grabbed the old man.

“I’m so glad I caught him!” she cried. “I hope he hasn’t been bothering you. He’s always escaping from the rest home and telling people he’s John D. Rockefeller.” And she led the old man away by the arm.

The astonished executive just stood there, stunned. All year long he’d been wheeling and dealing, buying and selling, convinced he had half a million dollars behind him.

Suddenly, he realized it wasn’t the money, real or imagined that had turned his life around. It was his newfound self-confidence which gave him the power to achieve anything he went after.

You see, this is a classic story of how people play themselves short, and assume they are a failure because someone else’s life seems to be better than theirs. If your decision making has gotten you into the mess which now exists, it will be that same decision making ability, this time with careful consideration that will exonerate you from the mess you’ve made.

In the story I wrote, the executive found the courage to get back in the game of business after a huge disappointment, however this time, he decided to give his all. Why was his self-confidence all of a sudden riding high? The reason is simple; he had complete confidence in what he thought he possessed. The phony $500,000 check was his placebo, which actually made him dig deeper within himself, become more creative than he had been in the past, and believe more in his ability to get the job done.

Imagine the power of self-confidence when a person believes in him or herself. Your qualities are intrinsic and your skill level is without limits. You can stretch yourself as far as you can believe. Take a deep breath and plunge into the best you ever.

You do not need $500,000 or five hundred million dollars in order to have confidence in yourself and your abilities. You can create so much more money and do so much more with your present life. The best investment you can ever make is in yourself. If you will decide to take care of your own grass, you will never be tempted to speak more favorable about how much greener the grass looks on the other side.

It doesn’t matter where you start or how you start, however, a considerable amount of weight is given to how you finish. You can make your grass look just as green as your neighbor’s grass with a little TLC (tender loving care).

It’s your life; love it!

Decisions

There was a Doctor who was at his wit’s end about making decisions and seeing all the patients he had in the waiting room. His nurse came into his office and said, “There’s a patient in the waiting room who claims to be invisible.” The Doctor replied, “Tell him I can’t see him!” (LOL)

Sometimes you don’t realize how far you have gotten away from the things you use to do and the person you use to be, until you look back to see how far off track you are.

Train tracks are designed to take a train to a particular designation. The train is designed to travel only on railroad tracks. The train cannot take short cuts, it cannot cut through fields, and the train cannot change its course without the conductor. Even if the conductor changes the direction of the train, the train maintains its position on the train tracks. If you see a train going down Broadway in New York, you will know that the train has been derailed. Continue reading “Back on Track”

Standing Still or Moving On

Standing Still or Moving
Standing Still or Moving On?
In February of nineteen hundred and eighty-four, I made one of the most important decisions of my life. I decided to walk away, and never return, from a people who were generally pessimistic. After careful consideration, I felt I had no choice but to walk away from those who had an unproductive philosophy that kept me struggling and mystified. Only then, was I able to comprehend the length, breadth, and height of my decision. If you have a desire to achieve anything of significance, you have to disallow your life to be circumscribed by people who are stuck in mediocrity and have no desire to move beyond it. They may be good people; they are just not good for you.

Job, Career, or Entrepreneurship

Have you ever said, “I need more money”? Before you spend another dime read what I have to say about creating more money.

Before You Spend A Dime On More Gas to Deliver Pizza for Extra Income, Read what I Have to Say!

“I need more money, and the only way I know how to get it without stealing, is to get an extra job!” said Fred.

Worrying about Money
Money Worries

I know how frustrating it can be when you have more month at the end of your money than money at the end of your month. Oftentimes, people are confused and unbelieving when it comes to creating ways to increase their income without having to get a second job or receiving a hefty pay raise. I am not saying that an extra job is not a viable option; I am simply pointing to the fact that there are other alternatives to increase your income without the added stress load. Besides this, employers are not passing out huge pay raises to people except to their top executives. Let’s face it; working yourself to death is not the answer for increasing your income. And, even if you were successful at increasing your income by working extremely hard and or having two jobs, you probably will not be around long enough to enjoy it. There are two ways to increase your income.
  1. You chase money until you have caught up with it, which makes you work harder.
  2. You learn how to attract money and make it work for you, and work smarter.

You make the choice. Get a job or create one.

There is a powerful scripture in the Bible that can unequivocally be a booster for one’s self-confidence, if they can believe it. This verse has empowered me to create the kind of opportunities to multiply my earnings by producing streams of income. This Bible verse does not pacify the self-helpless person because it places the ball in the individual’s court to produce actionable results to improve one’s income. For me, this is a self-help verse.

Deut. 8:18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth… (NIV)

Hundreds of millions of people have subliminally placed making money as some special gift that only a few exclusive heavenly endowed people have. Therefore, the person who accepts this philosophy as being true has already viewed their nominal salary as the motive to insert them in the average and ungifted category. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Rather people believe in their intrinsic ability to make as much money as they want to or not; based on this Bible verse, every human being has the impregnable gifting and right to create or produce wealth.

Playing dumb is not going to better your situation, nor is sticking your head in the sand to avoid the obvious going to make your financial woes disappear. People who think that they have money problems are sadly mistaken; their actual problem is not money, it is the lack of information and belief in their God-given ability to create wealth. In order to stop this infectious supposition from permeating the next generation, I believe parents have a responsibility to instruct their children and embed the belief in their psyche of their inherent ability to make and manage money, so that when they become young adults they are already ahead of the money making curve.

I both challenge and desire to change the way millions of people around the world think about producing and increasing wealth. There are viewpoints that often contradict conventional wisdom, mine is one of them. The first step to income multiplication is to believe that income multiplication is possible. Go ahead and take the first step. Then the inevitable will come into view.

My Country Tis of Thee…

The world is experiencing some unimaginable catastrophic events that are not only horrifying, but also Hollywood fabricated stories that are occurring before our very eyes. The recent tsunami in Japan is the worst the world has experienced in hundreds of years. Tsunamis occurring in any country are no laughing matter. The financial devastation that tsunamis, hurricanes, and earthquakes cause to the world economies does not compare to the untold deaths of human lives that potentially affect millions of others emotionally and financially. Japan’s government says the total cost of the damage caused by the tsunami could reach 25 trillion yen – or U.S. $309 billion. If the Japan’s government is correct, that would make this disaster the most costly earthly disaster ever.

The death toll in Japan’s recent tsunami has reached over ten thousand and there seem to be no conclusion to the discoveries of dead bodies. Why is the world experiencing a dramatic increase in earthly disasters? Most Earthly natural disasters occurring in the world cannot be avoided. We can only detect and warn people and country leaders by giving time approximations as to when these earthly disasters may occur. Today’s technology has helped to save untold numbers of human lives around the world, and yet, we are unable to save man from himself.

I am surprised at the response of the Japanese people after the tsunami devastated portions of their land. There is apparently no looting or killing of innocent people due to pandemonium. I know the history of America, and had the tsunami occurred in this country, I believe, without a doubt, that there would have been looting and possibly killing. The Japanese people have an internal structure that differs from that of the United States. The Japanese people have lived under their country’s system for thousands of years, and therefore, it effects how they think and react to certain occurrences. The United States government should sit back and study the behavior pattern of these people as it relates to national devastation and corporate behavior patterns under such severe stress.

When Hurricane Katrina hit America’s coastal line and devastated New Orleans and portions of Mississippi, Americans of all races were not only critical of why Katrina may have hit their area opposed to some other coastal line in the U.S., but also our government claimed to be uninformed about the severity of the hurricane’s effect and was extremely slow to respond. Some people in the area where Katrina hit at the time apparently viewed this catastrophic event on the Gulf as a time for looting. In addition to this, some segment of the population placed no emphasis on sparing the lives of African Americans. Angry Americans, of all peoples watched as we saw video footage of the bodies of children and adults floating in polluted waters and the people who were stuck on the rooftops of houses and buildings for days. The American government and its people pulled together too late and lives were lost because of our slow response.

Our prayers and support are for Japan and its people and I celebrate your resilience and strong support of your compatriots. However, for America, wake up and let us learn how to pull together instead of allowing circumstances to pull us apart. America is a melting pot or fusion of people from just about every nation and tongue. We are unique and yet powerful. We embrace the differences in our country and fight that opinions can be spoken without the threat of life being lost. Therefore, Americans’ uniqueness should not be a separation, but a reunion. Individualism is not an occasion for separatism. The test for America is how we will primarily respond as a country to our own internal problems, not how we respond to the needs of other countries.

When the airline flight attendant instructs passengers on how to respond in case of emergency, they without fail, mention for people to put their oxygen mask on first then help others around them.

America, take care of your country and its people first, and then you will be able to help other countries and their people. What will it matter if people from other countries applaud the American government for its intervention, while the American people are yet hungry, unemployed, homeless, sick, living in fear, undereducated, etc. America, we must do a better job at taking care of Americans.

I Love the United States of America…Do You?
