If Others Can Succeed, You Can Do It Too!

MB Text 3-29-2015There are certain myths and beliefs about why some people seem to overcome life’s struggles, and somewhat thrive through the ranks with such ease. I’m not talking about those who inherited money from their great or great, great grandparents, but rather the people who had humble beginnings and tragic upbringings, yet whose gifts or talents opened many doors for. In comparison, there are millions of people with great abilities who are smart and intelligent, yet it seems as if life is passing them by.

When you hear and read the stories of people who have risen out of humble or poor conditions such as Michael Jordan, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, Howard Schultz, Russell Simmons, Earvin (Magic) Johnson, John Paul DeJoria, and others who have come from low income lifestyles only to rise to the lifestyles of the rich and famous; You can almost believe to a large degree that maybe there are people who had a little extra gold dust sprinkled on them at birth.

These are some of the people of which 90% of us look at as being super- human, or as having some special gift that most people in this world just don’t have. Perhaps, they sold their soul to the devil in exchange for wealth and success. Now, as outlandish as this may sound, some people will accept this as a reality to justify why they just can’t seem to get over the hump.

Well, let me tell you the truth. Not one single person has any more ability to succeed in life or business than you. Life doesn’t have to be hard; it has to be functional and purposeful. You have to add meaning to your life; and goals, dreams, and vision are one way to add significance. Some people excel at life and business and some don’t – which one are you?

Contrary to popular belief, there are no codes to crack, safes to pick, or mysteries to solve. All that is required is to understand that the so-called-secret hidden behind a successful life, is diligence. You have to know what you want, and you have to want it bad enough to go for it regardless of the sacrifices it demands. Sometimes, the only thing blocking you from reaching your goal is the one thing you have a difficult time letting go. So, what’s blocking you?

“Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness.”
~Napoleon Hill

When people come to me about what they would like to do with their lives, I usually try to get them to make the decision to start the journey of reaching their goals before they find an excuse they can believe. If you give them a ‘What if it doesn’t happen’ scenario, you will have just reduced their dream or goals to an excuse. The excuse would prove to be just what they were looking for, because the demands may be greater than their desire. There is no room in my life for excuses—every space is occupied.

If you want to be a winner, change your philosophy about what it requires now! If you think you are totally incapable of owning and running your own business, then make that your goal. Why? It’s hard to keep score without a goal. Life needs adventure, excitement, and challenge; without these you’re just waiting for the grave.

Did you know that you only have today to get tomorrow right; but you cannot use today to correct the wrongs from yesterday? Belief in yourself and in your God-given abilities is a premium. Real confidence and empowerment is not determined by knowledge. Knowledge is from the past, which means it is safe but outdated. Why? Because what got you here, won’t get you there!

Some knowledge conflicts with originality and innovation. Knowledge is experience, and most people wish they had avoided most of the experiences they’ve encountered during their lifetimes. Experience can be an inhibitor to your success because it is built on solutions to old problems and situations. If you have the knowledge you most likely will use it again. Experience is the opposite of being imaginative and resourceful.

Find your true authentic self, and you will discover your hidden treasure. However, if you continue to search outside of yourself, you will only seek to be a cheap carbon copy of a great original.

Your Greatness is a Decision Away

great-thinkersIn all my years of being on this planet, there is one strike of light that seems to be turned on more than in any other subject matter. And, while most people my age are thinking about retiring, I am digging deeper to fully discover myself and my true potential. The longer I live, visit other countries and meet new people, the more I notice what appears to be a common thread among mostly everyone. This is especially true among those living in the atmosphere and mindset of western culture. That thread is a deep inner fear of unveiling who they really are and the things they are potentially able to perform.

It seems like people are frightened of the sheer fact of being who they would really like to be. Many of these people continue to live out their years under the guise of other people’s thoughts and expectations of them. This mindset is like a double edged sword. These people are too afraid to move into the consciousness of who they truly are, and too terrified of losing their friends and love ones if they were to move towards changing their lives. Now this is actually living life between a rock and a hard place.

Each person must at some point in their life, come to the realization that they are capable of greatness. Otherwise, the greatness they are capable of will never be realized during their life time. This is not arrogance, but the humility necessary to acknowledge your status on this planet. You must own who you are. Greatness should be an effortless accomplishment. Instead, it is an absurd notion that a person of assumed limited capability can even think of such a thing.

A person who refuses to stand up and be noticed is really doing not only themselves an injustice, but the entire world. To recognize your unique status on Earth is to realize that this power is in you, but not of you. A person doesn’t have less potential greatness residing in them than any other person. We all have different gifts. Some people use a greater proportion of their believability with their gift. It is the same gift, but with greater usage ability than mediocrity.

Reflect for a moment, on the people who have exploded out of the fabric of pure possibility. People, such as Shakespeare, Leonardo da Vinci, Einstein, Martin Luther King Jr., and Ben Franklin…now, imagine your name is among this list of great possibility thinkers and doers. It is hard to imagine all the extraordinary talent that has been wasted among oppressed people, including women—talent that did not rise because the social condition didn’t make it possible. Think of the talent in all people, regardless of race or color—abilities that we have yet to see on this planet because we have not given ourselves the permission to stand in our greatness.

I believe that we have arrived at this moment for such a time as this…to make a difference by first accepting our own greatness without comparison, and to believe in the inherent power God has placed in us. The first person who has to listen to you, is you. Speak out loud, make yourself known, and shine. Even the Bible says to let your light shine. Shine your spotlight on someone and rescue them from the darkness of their self-defeated mentality. Arise; the glory of God has risen upon you.

An Interview with Dr. Mikel Brown

This is an excerpt of an interview with Dr. Mikel Brown about various important topics.

An Interview
An Interview
Q: What is your view on business?
A: It depends on what kind of business you are referring to; or are you asking me about business in general? Business in and of itself relates to exchange, agreements, acquisition, bartering, relationships, marriage, etc. All of the components I just mentioned define business. Business cannot truly be identified without these components because these components are business. If I were to define it in my own words, I would simply define it as the act of dealing with others in and for personal or corporate endeavors.

Why Great Leaders Are Great Team Players

Team PlayersYour Opportunity For Success Is About To Expire If You Don’t Do This ONE Thing!

Are You A Part Of A Team, Or A Part Of The Problem Causing A Team To Fall Apart? Being able to touch your dream is the consequence of pulling together people who can help you live it. Have you ever met someone who seems to have all the qualities for getting a job done, but they lack the essentials to pull together quality people to help them complete the work they’ve started. This is when the cleverness and resourcefulness of a good leader should come into play. Understanding one’s own gift is important, but recognizing and knowing how to incorporate the gifts of others is extremely important. No “one man” can do any job alone.

Get out of my dreams and live your own!

“Get out of my dreams and live your own!” is the word I have for the thousands of people who are not settled with the fact that their life is worth living as well. Thousands and perhaps millions of people live in a state of disorientation when it comes to determining their own passion. Many people’s passion is based on someone else’s passion because they feel that their life is not interesting enough. These people are like children who are always competing for the attention of their parents or some adult.

One day, I was around a bunch of children that just wanted to say hi to me as though I was some rock star. I was flattered, but I also felt thronged by these children who were all competing for a handshake or a hug. I asked a young boy, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Another little boy quickly interrupted and said, “I don’t know.” Another little boy stared at me as though he was pondering on the question and shouted, “I want to be a fireman.” Immediately, the previous young boy that did not know what he wanted to be, yelled from the top of his lungs, “I want to be a fireman.” The bewildered young boy continued to change his life’s ambition based on what other children were saying because he thought I showed interest in what the others wanted to become. I thought to myself, this little boy has no clue that he was laying the foundation to be very unhappy with his life because for him his dream will never measure up to dreams of others.

Oftentimes, my wife and I would talk about the things we did as children growing up and how we daydreamed about what we wanted to become. She informed me that as a child her lifelong aspiration was to become a nurse. She was so aware of what she wanted to do that she pursued it all of her adolescence and young adult days. When she graduated from college, she no longer had to dream about becoming a nurse because her dream was realized when the Nurse State Exam Board mailed her test results, which was stamped—PASSED. She did not get her dream from someone else; she always knew that nursing would be her life assignment. It is particularly dangerous when a person desires to be someone else because they will eventually become lost in their own mind while trying to live the dream of someone else.

“My mother said to me, ‘If you become a soldier you’ll become a general, if you become a monk you’ll end up as the pope.’ Instead, I became a painter and wound up as Picasso,” said the great painter.

No one ever became great by imitating others. Do yourself a favor—don’t become some cheap copy of a great original. Make your own impression in life. I believe all people are created equal and endowed by their Creator with inalienable rights to be what they are destined to be. I am also persuaded that there is something for you to start that is ordained for you to finish. If you are like most people, who are waiting for the right time, you will discover that time will not wait for you. To only dream of the person you are supposed to be is a waste of the person you are. Claiming to be you while living the life of someone else is double trouble. Living a double life will get you nowhere twice as fast.

Seek to discover your gifts, talents and passion. If you do not have a plan, don’t borrow one until you get one or else you will end up settling with what you already have. Avoid becoming a complete stranger to yourself. Find out your uniqueness and fall in love with it because you are one of a kind. Start with what you have and develop it until there is nothing remotely close to resembling it.
