The Dominant Quality In Leaders Of Distinction

MB Text 8-14-2015 (Leadership Qualities)It’s no secret that corporations look for prolific leaders to drive the corporate success van. This means putting the right person in the right role and surrounding that person with the right personnel. By doing so, corporate decision makers can increase the chances of producing a profit for its investors and show significant growth by the end of the year. So, what should their question be before starting their hunt for such a person(s)?

The primary question should not be, “Who is a difference maker?” Rather, it should be, “What qualities make one a difference maker?” Once this is established, the manhunt can begin since the search will narrow in on qualities rather than a person. Many mistakes have been made by people in search of the one person they believe can help change things for them or their team. Whether corporate or personal, judging and sizing up a person based on their present condition, or outward appearance, may prove to be impractical.

People who possess qualities which make them stand out aren’t as easily discernable. One reason, is they are not ambitious, nor do they have need of a title to define them. You may find a person who knows how to say the right words and is an over achiever, but lacks discipline and integrity. The person who is truly a difference maker is more interested in the quality of their work, than their work looking as though it has quality.

Let me explain what I consider to be an attribute. An attribute is a quality or characteristic of someone or something which gives credit for things such as a body of work, art, or a saying. An attribute can be considered a standard or conviction which causes a person to stand out. Imagine being in the company of difference makers who care about making a difference in society and in the lives of others.

What do you have when an entire team of people with difference maker qualities come together? What you have is a winning combination who can never be defeated. A difference maker is someone who is willing and able to fill all aspects of their role with confidence, who consistently delivers on objectives, and who follows or leads their team to peak performance. They understand their role is as essential as the next man’s. In many cases, a difference maker shakes things up, brings forth change, and demands results from themselves and their colleagues. They aren’t interested in being popular; they want success for the company or team even if it means not leading. With this attitude they will hit their targets and inspire their teams to do the same.

Difference makers are self-motivated. Difference makers are honest, they don’t cover up mistakes, and they are completely accountable for what works and what doesn’t work. They take full responsibility for their actions and results. You can’t tell if these people are difference makers by looking at them; their qualities are exposed by interacting with them. They are proactive, solution-oriented, and take-action people. Their values align with those of their organization or team, and these values drive day-to-day behaviors to pursue excellence.

How does a company, small business, or individual find a Difference Maker? Well, you can’t find them in the Yellow Pages. In the brawl for gifted able bodies, the challenges most organizations face are not limited to the simple unavailability of competent people. The hiring process is not set up to properly identify those who can truly make a difference. Focusing only on the skills and experience needed, the interviewer often pays too little attention to values, motivations, habits, work styles, behaviors, and cognitive abilities. Stop qualifying a person for where your company presently is, and start looking for those individuals who may not have all the skills, but who are willing to be molded into the person you need, not just want. Don’t look for the mate who completes you, look for the person who complements you.

Companies should design employment programs to become mentors to their employees instead of employers. Difference Makers are developed into their role not fit into it.

Mb-text_1 If you want more out of life, discover your inherent potential. Within this writing are hidden tips on how to discover your potential, which will allow you to make a dent in the universe. If you find them, they will make you wise; overlook them, and you may remain unproductive. Thomas Edison’s teachers told him he was “too stupid to learn anything.” However, Edison went on to hold more than one thousand patents and invented some world-changing devices, like the phonograph, practical electrical lamp, and a movie camera.

People who truly succeed in life are those who don’t just do their best, they just do it! Your best efforts will never secure your success. It takes more than effort, it takes passion.

Wasted talent and ability is the humiliation of humanity. The worst thing a person can do is have such great potential but so little confidence. The lack of confidence is a by-product of how a person sees him or herself, especially during times of extreme pressure, frequent letdowns, and difficulty. Pressure in life exposes the weaknesses in the armor, which causes cracks and breakages when people wear the face of pretending to appear strong. It is extremely easy to hide behind the thin paper veneer of words, but words without history are simply chatter without power.

What is a person’s invaluable commodity? What makes a person great and their personality standout? Is it because he or she is funny or because they are smart? I would love to say these are important qualities of a self-assured person, but this is not usually the case. Many smart and funny people are undisciplined and irresponsible when it comes to performing on the grand stage of life. Life often produces challenges which reveal our ability or inability to handle timidity. What is actually absent from the majority of people with great potential, is personal leadership or mentorship. Avoiding a person who can possibly help channel your strengths and diminish your weaknesses, is a waste of your commodity.

Believing that simple effort is effective in accomplishing a person’s goals, may reveal that you are the kind of person who usually takes short routes which lead to nowhere. Millions never reach their full potential because they choose not to maintain their posture of discipline. While a few people do realize their dreams, the young and the goalless have reclined in the comfort of their frail attempt at realizing theirs.

In other words, they liquidate or reduce their God-given ability to weak efforts that are only produced from feeble attempts. Potential is the intrinsic ability one might have, which for whatever reason, they have not come to realize. I am convinced that most of us are content with just trying to live better lives, instead of living better lives.

Force yourself to establish habits that are conducive for you to produce the life or business you want. To reach your full potential or to get close to fulfilling it, you must unlearn many of your bad and unproductive habits. Your chief deterrent, inhibitor, or restraint, is the lack of passion—I mean having a deep fervor to not become a narrator of your dream, but the architect of it. Potential is the full intrinsic capacity which constantly expands a person’s ability to do more than what they may think they are capable of.

Let’s figure out other reasons why these talented people spend their wheels and end up nowhere. Maybe, just maybe, we can awaken the giant within, and cause these giants to rise. Most people have been tutored and motivated to give their best efforts in school, sports, and other activities. However, many of us lack the encouragement that we are more than capable of consummating any goal or task. Therefore, our ability is not limited, but our knowledge is.

Effort points to trying your best to do something even though you don’t reach your full capacity. Humanly, we rest on this premise of effort, only to secure the feeling that we gave it our best shot. Unfortunately, your best shot usually proves to be inadequate for the task. People who do not realize their potential will be satisfied with their efforts and promote their efforts over their potential.

The people who usually claim they are never able to get over the hump, are the ones who are simply afraid to push themselves to step over the hump and experience what they can really do. In other words, the time, energy, and resources needed to push hard to realize or to reach their goals, is too much of a price to pay. They want others to pay the price, but they want to collect the dividends.

Oftentimes, what hinders many potentially great and powerful individuals, are their predetermined limitations. The reason for this dominance of fear, is taught restrictions. Whether these restrictions were learned voluntarily or involuntarily does not matter because regardless, they are very real. Efforts are learned limits, while potential is unlimited.

Never ever settle for getting close, while never finishing. I fully believe potential can only be realized if God is placed in the equation. When you accept God’s divine image in your life, you will never settle for reaching a goal line when you know winning requires that you cross over it.

Gifting, Training or Both

There are many things during your lifetime that will capture your eye and pull your attention, but only a few things will seize your heart and encapsulate your dreams. These quality traits of life are necessary to pursue because they are designed to create balance and wholeness. Be careful of what you say to yourself because you will respond to whatever you say. It is not as critical to know who you presently are, as much as it is for you to know who you want to be.

I am personally acquainted with people who have exceptional oratory skills-some are professional speakers, others are clergymen, some are CEOs and people in top managerial positions, and yet, these well-trained and qualified speakers rave about me having a magnetic gift to communicate. I am astonished at their personal admiration, but sometimes I cannot help and wonder if the adoration is for my so-called gift of gab or for the words I share that seem to narrow in on the innermost recesses of the listener’s heart. Personally, I survey my speaking as imparting which I view as entirely different from one who simply eloquently articulates.

What is your gift? Do you believe you have a gift? Can you identify what your gift is? Do you believe that your gift needs no additional grooming? I believe everyone has a special gifting, but not everyone is as talented as others. Many people can sing, but there aren’t as many that can lead a song. Now, we can it narrow down to those who can be the lead on a song, but only a few have a special gift to sing with such emotion that they inherently move their audience to tears. Identifying your gift or talent is relative to how you train. Those who can recognize their ability can employ the right person to help them develop it.

It is difficult to know who you want to be until you see what you can actually do. Michael Jordan almost forgot who he wanted to be because of the death of his father. After Michael Jordan’s father pasted, he returned to his childhood desire of playing baseball which was spurred by his father’s passion. Michael had only a desire to play baseball, but his father had a passion for the game. After MJ went to the baseball minor league and miserably failed at playing the game, he became absolutely certain of his deep passion to play basketball. For those who watched him while he won his individual basketball accolades and his six national basketball championships (two three-peats), he became ‘the’ Michael Jordan.

Lack and limitation can only exist when we make room for them in our mind.

When you plan to be who you want to be, you do not plan for incidentals. You work to develop your gift and passion. Life is a series of lessons, which must be lived to be understood. Motivation is the engine to move you to start your dream, but habit is the oil that keeps your engine lubricated and operating smoothly.

Are you a model for success?

Are you a model for success? Do you display the qualities of a successful person in life? Have you stopped to look back to see how far you have come? One of the worst things an individual can do is to compare what they have done to what someone else has done. To do so would be unfair to you; making it very difficult for you to gauge whether you are having any real success or not. The reason is that when others come into play while you are measuring your success, you cannot possibly know what the other person’s pluses and minuses are. The assessment would be unfair because of the different assignments we all have in life. Therefore, your gauge should not be against another person, but against yourself. Scan your past, compute your distance, calculate your height, and then process your own results. High performers know how to consistently excel because they are continually monitoring and regulating their every act. Even the most talented people can fall into a habit of poor performance. Only with the right attitude and the willingness to pay the ultimate price for success in life and business will you guarantee your success. Being brutally honest about what you are doing wrong is the only true way to change. If you can face the truth about your past and present, excelling toward your accomplishment is only a matter of simple determination. God is the only true source of power that can be used to overcome dissuasion. The only thing that remains is learning how to use God’s power that He has made available to you.
