Four Practical Ways To Optimize Your Life and Business

Optimizing your life TextWould you like to learn four simple procedures to optimize your life and business, while at the same time discovering how to reach the financial goals you set for yourself without trying very hard?
People are always searching for the secret to success or trying to find the mysterious map that will lead to the lost treasure buried hundreds of years ago. While many people spend their entire lifetime chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, these people often live a life full of aimless goals and fruitless pursuits. They are completely unaware of the reasons that drive them to no end. They seem to always be on alert for the next hot thing or chasing one multi-level marketing project after another.

These are often good people, but with very little patience. They are also driven by the apparent success of others, without realizing all the necessary real-life steps those successful men and women had to take. Oftentimes, paying the price for success is suffering through the gruesome climb to get there. Successful people didn’t try to live the life of the Jones’—pretending to look the part of being a success but actually living the secret life of a pauper. Many successful people simply took their time, walked through the process, and learned the lessons which needed to be embraced along the journey of success. This is where the pretenders have no patience; and the lack of patience causes a person to make foolish decisions. So, how does one finally arrive at the threshold of success? Well, ask yourself this question, “Am I trying to do good or make myself look good?”

We often hear the word optimization when it comes to the business world, but you rarely hear of it being mentioned and applied on a personal level. Therefore, ordinary people, like you and me, have a tendency to over complicate things when 98% of life or business is rather simple. When the simple things appear too simple to produce results, then the issue is with how the person perceives him or herself. They may feel as though they are too good to do the simple things in life. Jim Rohn said, “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.”
What creates the situations and circumstances which keep us moving in circles, is when solutions are so simple that they’re overlooked. When a person feels coerced to do what they have to do to make a living, they stop living because they believe doing what they have to do is the only way they can survive. This is when limitless potential becomes limited potential. This belief denotes busyness not business.

To optimize something means to make it function at its best or most effectively or, to use something to its best advantage. Allow me to point you to four really powerful steps to optimize your life, and your business can follow the same path. But, before I give you these practical principles read this brief anecdote.

There was once a man who liked doing business, but he loved playing golf—his favorite hobby. One day, he stopped spinning his wheels on how to make a buck with his business, and started living his life doing what he really loved. He ended up playing golf professionally, and made more money playing golf than he did doing business. Now this is what I call simple optimization.

Practical Principle #1
Keep life as simple as possible.

Practical Principle #2
Don’t try to make yourself look good; do good!

Practical Principle #3
Be patient, but not lazy. Live your own dream.

Practical Principle #4
Do what you truly love because it beats doing what you feel coerced to do any day!

You have now discovered the pot of gold and it’s not at the end of the rainbow; it’s in you. Over thirty years ago, I was told by a wealthy man in the city where I reside, that making money is really simple. A few years after my brief encounter with this wealthy gentleman, I realized that the Bible shares the simple truth of this same principle!

“Only those who have patience to do simple things perfectly ever acquire the skill to do difficult things easily.”
                                                                                                                    ~James J. Corbett

The Intrinsic Quality of the Successful

iqs-200-postIf you are waiting for someone to substantiate that you are a success, you are waiting for the wrong information. If you are looking around to see the symbols of your success to validate whether or not you are a success, you are looking at the wrong things.

Internal success far outweighs external success. Knowing who you are and living a life of fulfillment is far more valuable than all the money in the world. In fact, having a powerful sense of self-awareness, and an intuitive knowledge of who you truly are without the need of outside influences to help you secure your mental sense of self-worth, is a priceless commodity.

I am not saying wealth and material things are not important, because that would not be true. On the contrary, money and material things are an absolute necessity if one is going to survive in this world. Riches may not bring permanent happiness, but neither will poverty. I have seen wealthy people miserable and unhappy, though they possess all the money and material things a person can dream of having. I have also seen people living with just the bare basic necessities of life, and they are just as miserable and unhappy as the person with everything.

Therefore, money and material things are not the true symbols of success. The Good Book says that a person who cannot rule their own soul is like a city without walls. This means that the person’s life and all they may have built throughout their lifetime is completely vulnerable and open to assaults. These people usually end up losing everything because they most likely have stepped on (not over) many friends and associates just to get what they thought would validate them in the eyes of people. A person succeeding in making money is not an indicator that the person has succeeded with controlling their insatiable appetites of lasciviousness.

Your self-image is a product of your experiences, failures, triumphs, humiliations, and breakthroughs. Through these experiences, you create a picture of yourself and most importantly, you believe that it is a true depiction of who you are. Because you believe your self-image is accurate, you base your actions on it. If your actions lead to failure or success, your self-image is then is responsible. There is a reason why willpower does not work, and why it is like a snap-back effect. Your “will” is powered by something other than you simply making a decision to do something. Your mind controls your body, but your will controls your mind.

When people use willpower, what they are actually doing is going to battle against their self-image. However, the self-image is always stronger because it is their subconscious belief. To further explain my point, I want you to view yourself as a rubber band. When you stretch the rubber band, it is similar to your willpower. If you think you can go around for a full day as a fully stretched out rubber band, you are sadly mistaken. At some point during the course of the day, something will distract you—and you will let up on the pressure. When that happens, the rubber band snaps back to its true shape. This is what happens when you use your will power to mentally change what you think about yourself without you changing your intrinsic core belief of who you are. Woody Allen said, “My only regret is that I’m not someone else.”

What a sad way of thinking about yourself. You can make all the money your little heart desires, but you better know why you are trying to make money, because money itself will not be the remedy to your lack of fulfillment. This is one of the reasons why so many people experience the yo-yo effect. The will is designed to do what it does, but it does not make you who you are. If you learn to re-engineer your self-image based on a God-consciousness, you will permanently expand it, and there will be no more snap-back effect.

A neighbor was befriending a child in the neighborhood.
“I understand that you have twins in your home. Are you one of them?”
The boy slowly put his head down and said, “No sir! I’m just a spare.”

Once you learn how to activate and release God’s power in every situation, you will find yourself moving beyond obstacles that previously frustrated you. You will actually develop an unstoppable God (self)-confidence and a heightened excitement about your future. Like most people, your will is to be successful, but it does not mean because your will is for success, that you will obtain it. You have to go further than just to will it; you have to believe it so that no approval would be necessary to make your life work. There is no doubt in my mind that if you are a success; the only thing I must do is to believe that you are.

Now, let me re-address the subject of money. It’s right to make money and even ethically there is nothing wrong with making a lot of money. Money may not grow on trees, but it does grow from talent and knowledge. Concentration, Creativity, and Negotiation are three important elements of having a successful business. The ability to take an idea, analyze business opportunities, and evaluate business options is a major attribute use. When your heart is balanced, it takes a conscientious effort to ensure that your mind coincides with your heart.

A Life That Inspires

inspire200Is your life an inspiration to others, or does your presence trigger perspiration in those you come in contact with?

It is important to understand the quality of life one may have does not necessarily translate into others seeing them as a quality person. A person of excellence and moral standards is inspiring to most people. Inspiration is derived from somebody or something that inspires someone to be creative in thought, or it is the quality of being stimulated to creative activity.

Have you ever visited a business establishment and asked the secretary or host a question, and they made you feel as though you were bothering them? Today, this seems to be the quality of service people are giving. For example, when I look at the quality of work at many construction sites, it is atrocious – to say the least. Even if the work is incomplete, the contractors want full payment for an incomplete job. What is worse, they do not care about the quality of work they have produced.

What is the quality of your work or business? Do you take pride in what you do? There is a restaurant my wife and I frequently visit, and I cannot ever recall going into their restroom and finding it dirty. Generally, if the restroom is filthy at an eating facility, the chances are pretty high the cooks and management have a low standard in terms of the quality of food and service they provide. In fact, this type of restaurant may not be a good place to eat, if you want to survive.

I happen to own a casual dining restaurant. One of the things I continually gauge is the cleanliness of our facility, ensuring a high level of service is maintained. The same principle applies to my house, church, and my own quality of work. My motto is, “In Pursuit of Excellence.”

While growing up in the sixties, there was a commercial about a Zenith product which has stayed with me to this day. Its slogan was, “The quality goes in before the name goes on.” The indication was that unless the product met the company’s quality standard, the product did not warrant the name of the company. They only wanted their name associated with a quality product. I certainly would not want my name associated with substandard work. Your work speaks volumes about you as a person. People should gain inspiration from your work and your life. Make sure you place the highest quality in your business, work, or services before you tag your name on either.

You cannot change other people, but you can change yourself. It is very easy to focus on the faults of others; but it is rather uncomfortable to confront your own. People are generally running from themselves, living in constant fear, and are apathetic about confronting the challenges which oppose their dreams. Isn’t it worth the battle to live the quality life others would be proud to? This is not a selfish, egotistical approach to living. To the contrary, this is no more than a person who wants a better life for him or herself and their loved ones.

Picasso, Michael Angelo, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Aristotle, Corrie Ten Boom, Maya Angelou, Mother Teresa, Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Oral Roberts, and of course there are more. These people and others in their class are an inspiration to people everywhere. Their lives and works speak loud and clear as to the excellence they portrayed during their lifetime. Though some have died, their names and their works still serve as an inspiration.

Are you included in this list of inspiring people? If not, you should want to inspire others so you can leave your mark on this world before you’re gone.

Get What Life is Holding For You

life-200What do you believe life is really about? Regardless of your religious affiliation, your thoughts about life and what it holds for you is absolutely important for you to know in order to get it right; otherwise, very little will ever go right for you. Sometimes, people have the craziest notion about life, which keeps them searching for all the wrong things in all the wrong places. Did you ever stop to think you could be in the right place searching for the wrong things? You will never find wrong in right, unless you are right about being wrong.

Gifting, Training or Both

There are many things during your lifetime that will capture your eye and pull your attention, but only a few things will seize your heart and encapsulate your dreams. These quality traits of life are necessary to pursue because they are designed to create balance and wholeness. Be careful of what you say to yourself because you will respond to whatever you say. It is not as critical to know who you presently are, as much as it is for you to know who you want to be.

Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

~George Bernard Shaw

I am personally acquainted with people who have exceptional oratory skills-some are professional speakers, others are clergymen, some are CEOs and people in top managerial positions, and yet, these well-trained and qualified speakers rave about me having a magnetic gift to communicate. I am astonished at their personal admiration, but sometimes I cannot help and wonder if the adoration is for my so-called gift of gab or for the words I share that seem to narrow in on the innermost recesses of the listener’s heart. Personally, I survey my speaking as imparting which I view as entirely different from one who simply eloquently articulates.

What is your gift? Do you believe you have a gift? Can you identify what your gift is? Do you believe that your gift needs no additional grooming? I believe everyone has a special gifting, but not everyone is as talented as others. Many people can sing, but there aren’t as many that can lead a song. Now, we can it narrow down to those who can be the lead on a song, but only a few have a special gift to sing with such emotion that they inherently move their audience to tears. Identifying your gift or talent is relative to how you train. Those who can recognize their ability can employ the right person to help them develop it.

It is difficult to know who you want to be until you see what you can actually do. Michael Jordan almost forgot who he wanted to be because of the death of his father. After Michael Jordan’s father pasted, he returned to his childhood desire of playing baseball which was spurred by his father’s passion. Michael had only a desire to play baseball, but his father had a passion for the game. After MJ went to the baseball minor league and miserably failed at playing the game, he became absolutely certain of his deep passion to play basketball. For those who watched him while he won his individual basketball accolades and his six national basketball championships (two three-peats), he became ‘the’ Michael Jordan.

Lack and limitation can only exist when we make room for them in our mind.

~Bob Proctor

When you plan to be who you want to be, you do not plan for incidentals. You work to develop your gift and passion. Life is a series of lessons, which must be lived to be understood. Motivation is the engine to move you to start your dream, but habit is the oil that keeps your engine lubricated and operating smoothly.

Need A Boost?

Greatness cannot be achieved by tracking the steps of great men or women. If you follow in someone else’s steps, your personal success will only reflect the accomplishments of the one whose footprints you choose to follow. You will simply become a carbon copy of a great original. Following a person with impressive qualities, which you may personally desire to emulate, does not guarantee greatness, but it can help you recognize it. Eventually, the person who follows the trail of a prominent person will one day have to veer off and blaze his or her own trail.

I have learned a great deal during my years under the tutelage of great men, and one valuable lesson was that you cannot trace the steps of a great mentor and follow them to their end because at the conclusion of their course, you will only discover their destiny—not your own. Here is a simpler way to understand my point; you are the rocket ship going into orbit and the booster engine is attached to you. The booster is designed to help you get into space until you can fire up your own engine, detach yourself from the booster so that you can continue your mission and fulfill your purpose. The power exemplified in the booster engine is the years of experience and enormous knowledge and wisdom acquired over the years. Great leaders and mentors want nothing more than to pass on their wealth of knowledge and help propel others to achieve more in their lifetime than the mentor may have accomplished in his.

Understanding this example can be the difference between you wasting energy or preserving it. You see, the booster engine is attached so that the rocket ship can conserve as much energy as possible because its mission will be quite arduous. A father, mentor, or pastor, is the booster engine whose sole purpose is to help you excel. It is presumed that you respect the presence and recognize the magnitude and enormity of the mentor’s wisdom and knowledge. If not, you will never fully adhere to the instructions that can help you with your personal life construction.

Invest your time in people who will give the greatest return.
John Maxwell

Wise and successful people are in such demand that a protégé should always consider their time as precious and highly valuable. Most people that are young in knowledge and experience (which does not mean that these people are necessarily young in age) but rather people who think that successful people have nothing else to do but listen to a bumbling idiot voice his or her knowledge about nothing. My solemn recommendation, for people seeking wise counsel from someone who is successful, is ask your question, shut up, and pay attention while you are in the presence of greatness. Words from the lips of a wise man or woman are like pillars that can support your next level.

To desire greatness is a lofty thought not a bad one. Usually, people who have achieved greatness did not ask for it, nor did they actually realize that they have obtained it. Great leaders are great givers, and unless you are willing to tax your time, energy and resources, you simply will want the title of greatness at other people’s expense.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Vince Lombardi are two people I would love to talk to if they were alive today. I realize one was a preacher and the other was a football coach, however, the vastness of their knowledge concerning winning was extraordinary. Developing Strategies to win at anything and executing that strategy is pertinent to winning in life. These two men were from different ends of the spectrum but so very much alike. Both of them believed in the power of people working as one; they both believed in using drastic measures to achieve their goal; and they both gave their lives to what they believed. These two extraordinary men never separated what they did in life, apart from their life. You are what you do, and what you do speaks volume as to who you are.

See You At the Top!
