What Motivates The Dreamer?

MB Text 7-3-2015 (Motivate, Dreamer)People who have dreams and believe in them usually live longer lives than people who don’t. When you have a dream to live, you are better off than the person who has to live with no dream at all. You will have a different kind of energy about you. Not only are you extending your life, but you are adding life to your years, making it more enjoyable. This is when you understand your dream is not optional—it’s necessary.

A person with a dream who doesn’t have any ump to make it happen really doesn’t believe in their dream. It’s not that they wouldn’t love to fulfill their dream; they just don’t love it enough to surrender all of their faculties to making it happen.

What do you believe is missing when a person just can’t seem to muster the energy necessary to create ways to live their dream? If you don’t know, I do. One of the most powerfully creative tools given to human beings, is the ability to use imagination. And, yet, imagination is not the answer. Rather, it’s what imagination unlocks when the right image is visible through a person’s mind’s eye. Let me spell it out for you, MOTIVATION. When a person is missing the feeling of enthusiasm, interest, or the sense of commitment which causes people to have a reason, or incentive to accomplish something; they are generally missing is what is commonly known as motivation.

Below is an excerpt from my soon to be released book, entitled, TURN ON YOUR LIFE, which I believe can help a person identify that gut feeling when it comes to living out dreams.

“When you know someone else has done what you are endeavoring to accomplish, then you know you can do it too. It’s easy to see someone else do something and then believe you can do it. But what happens when there is no record of anyone ever accomplishing or even attempting what your dream has inspired you to do? Steve Jobs once said, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise be important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”

Do you have that feeling deep in your gut that it’s time to go for it, to tackle the one thing you’ve waited your whole life to make happen? You realize you can no longer fight that feeling, that thought—when you feel you are against the odds, even though someone else has already done what you aspire to accomplish, and you have that belief, that drive and determination that you can do it too. This crazy feeling swimming around inside your gut is the audacity that will keep you strong and persistent, always challenging yourself to do it. When you have a real-to-life dream, it becomes necessary that you live this dream.”

Excerpt from TURN ON YOUR LIFE, chapter “Get Motivated”, by Dr. Mikel Brown.

Believe it or not, 90% of the world’s population shares the same problem of inconsistency. Inconsistency is normal for most people. Normalcy for most people is sitting back and waiting for things to happen. If this is you, and you want to change, you have to deliberately break the habit of being inconsistent, which erodes your dreams and pollutes your efforts.

Stand up, stay up, and don’t give up! You can change so easily by simply changing the image in your mind. Your imagination is the key to your drive and persistence. All accomplishments were birthed out of the womb of imagination. See yourself fighting for your dream, living your dream, and defending your right to enjoy, without apology, the privilege of even having a dream.

Your imagination holds the key to your motivation. If you can dream it, it’s meant to be. If you can see it, it’s actually real, and if you can live it, you will enjoy it.

Learning To Manage Distractions

MB Text 5-17-2015 (Distractions)I have heard many people call the times we live in, the age of information. This may be true to a large degree. While we are living in precarious times, new information seems to be quickly outdated. The more informed the public becomes, the more problems seem to exist, brought about by the new information. In fact, the greater the technological advancement the more distracted we become.

I call this age, “The age of great distractions.” People are rarely able to maintain any focus today, and the medical field has documented this. A.D.D., better known as Attention Deficient Disorder, is rocking both the young and aging of the Western World, making stakeholders of pharmaceutical companies supplying the drugs for treatment, very wealthy.

It used to be common culture for everyone to read the newspaper on the subway train while going to work. Advertisements were posted on city streets and in shopping malls, etc. Now a large majority of the population, seemingly everywhere, can be found with their heads buried in their mobile devices scanning the internet, their emails, Twitter accounts, and Facebook. If this is not the age of distraction, I don’t know what is.

Technology is the base cause for an increase in traffic fatalities in the United States, because texting and driving has proved to be just as deadly as drinking and driving. So although technology is good, it breeds other problems that arise as a result of new information. The faster the newer products, and things made more convenient, the more complex our problems become.

I was driving past a High School that had recently released its students from class. When I looked at the youth leaving the building, over half had their heads buried in their cell phones. Can you believe that a child walked into the street without looking and nearly got hit because he was reading something on his phone?

These are just a few examples. There are other distractions which also make it difficult to get any real work done on the job. Computers have taken all the thinking ability of humanity, leaving most Americans scatterbrained and unable to figure out or solve problems on their own. Rather than deriving from a person’s heart, the media influences dreams and ambitions via movies, advertising, and periodicals, distracting people from their true purpose.

How do you distract a man with a dream? Give him another one. People are moving from one career to another without realizing what is creating all this movement without motive. People are getting college degrees in business management, yet pursuing jobs in healthcare facilities. One person I’m familiar with moved from working as a logistics manager to a car salesperson, from that to a healthcare facilitator, and from that to a Wal-Mart employee, all in two years.

If you don’t learn to do one thing well, you will not be able to do anything well enough! Watch out for distractions because they are seriously looking to pull your attention elsewhere.

Seriously consider that your ability to get focused, and stay that way, is more than just an advisable thing to develop and nurture—it’s a decisive aspect of your success or failure. Getting things done the right way and on schedule is absolutely imperative. Staying keenly centered is the key to getting things done, because you learn to work smarter rather than harder.

Take advantage of opportunities to develop ways to help yourself stay focused at work, school, and even in your daily life, by managing your distractions and reducing the possibility for procrastination. This will help you eliminate most setbacks and delays so work is not merely thought of, but actually completed.

The Ethics of Business

business-ethics200Do the ethics people apply to running their business interrelate with how they manage their lives?

Before I answer this question concerning ethics and business, allow me to point out one important piece of information about business or owning a business. The word business does not strictly relate to transacting commerce, though it does not exclude commerce or capital. Business in its basic meaning is a set of tasks or important things that somebody has to do or deal with, and/or personal responsibilities and concerns. As such, business can relate to owning and running your own company, as much as it does with managing the affairs of a family.

Ethics is a system of moral standards or principles which are the filters whereby people manage their conduct. Therefore, everything a person does is expressed through a moral consciousness of what is good, bad, or indifferent. I think this is important to know so when the readers answer this question, they do not answer from the standpoint of the 11.2 percent of the United States population, who own and run their own businesses as though they can leave themselves out of the equation.

Now, the question asked at the beginning of this article was, ‘Do the ethics people apply to running their business interrelate with how they manage their lives?’

To answer this question correctly, I will first give some insight. There are three important components which epitomize your life. They are uniquely interrelated and cannot be separated when employed. In fact, they harmonize and are inseparable like water and wet, or words and meanings. Neither of these can be executed or expressed without the other. The three components I’m referring to are time, energy, and money. These balance or set off the totality of a person’s life. And, may I include; ethics has everything to do with this powerful quintessential of life.

Time is not life, but life is comprised of it. Energy is not life; however, life cannot be sustained without it. Money is not life, but it is the bartering tool you exchange facets of your life for. What exactly do you mean Dr. Brown? Your present life is the computation of time indicated by seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. In fact, without time, human life, with the inclusion of all vegetation and other living organisms, would cease in this world because life is time.

Energy is vital for life because life is energy. From molecules to atoms and sub-atoms, all are intercreative and synergistically designed to support and sustain the ecosystem and natural balance of life. Therefore, your life is your strength and energy. Without energy, organisms cannot exist on planet Earth.

The last portion of my explanation may be initially confusing because you may think, ‘What does money have to do with life?’ Let me ease your mind, I am not suggesting your life cannot exist without money; however, in this world money is the result and representation of your time and energy.

When you have a job, it’s not just for show, but it determines the lifestyle you decide to live. Ethics helps you to properly manage your money. I believe strongly that the ethics you live your life by are the standards in which you truly govern your life. Although money helps you to govern your lifestyle, it also translates to how you perform in business and the business of your family.

So to the question “Do the ethics people apply to running their business interrelate with how they manage their lives?” my answer is…the answer is in the question.

Managing Your Emotions (Pt 1)

Managing Your Emotion
One third of the American population admits to having some form of emotional problem. Limited ability to deal with one’s emotional instability has damaged businesses, careers and the personal lives of many people. The capability to manage emotions such as disillusionment, anger and frustration is an important interpersonal skill, which depends solely on your ability to identify and evaluate addictive behavior and its link to what incites it.

The ability to make exceptional critical decisions while experiencing highly emotional periods of frustration, disappointment, and possibly mild forms of depression, which can affect your future life or business, is usually predicated on the strength to manage your emotions. When your hopes in business are shattered by failure; or your first published book has not moved out of your garage; or your dream of succeeding in the music industry was shot down by some big-time music executive — allowing your emotions to get out of control, will easily cause you to become misdirected.

One of my business protégés once spoke out of his personal frustration because his company’s success was not coming as fast as he had anticipated. So, he made a ridiculous statement that he should just take his money and buy lottery tickets, thinking he will have a better chance at winning the lottery than being successful in business. You will be surprised how many of your business and personal life choices are made during times of stubbornness and inflexibility. Frustration and pigheadedness is a link to much of your anxiety that must be eliminated in order to reduce the severity of your problems.

“Whenever you’re confronted with a tough work situation, stop for a second and try to honestly answer this question: Am I approaching this emotionally or am I approaching this professionally?” –Suze Orman

Imagine you are a CEO of a company that has to answer to a board of twelve. One of the board members, (as if he is your worst nightmare) always shoots down your suggestions. Or, perhaps you are an accountant working in an accounting firm, where your boss thinks that you never have enough work. Your decision to remain cool, calm and collected under emotional pressure can be the difference of between success and failure.

If you are in any situation that is similar to these two previously stated scenarios, let me give you the simplest answer. Emotions are simply feelings in motion. If you can control your emotions, you can control the direction of your motion (action). Do not give your critics the satisfaction of seeing you as an emotional wreck.

Think about what you want to do, and how you want to act in a situation. Right action prevents poor reaction.
