Unsolicited Consequences

MB Text 7-26-2015 (Consequnce)What are consequences and why can they be fatal?

A consequence is something that follows as a result. Consequences can be good or bad, however, it is the relation between a result and its cause. If it is a negative result, it means a previous action resulted in an unpleasant or difficult outcome. There’s one thing about consequences – we all pay them.

Can you recall a time where you’ve personally said or done something for which you felt the consequences were unwarranted? No one ever complains and wonders why good things are happening to them, but most people are usually very confused as to why negative consequences occur. Negative consequences would never materialize without them first being paid for. Every consequence is paid in advance.

Now I believe, there is a cause and effect, and a ripple effect for everything everyone does, and those actions can have positive consequences as well as negative. Everyone has to make their own decisions, however you have to be able to accept the consequences without complaining. A person’s acceptance of what has taken place is the first step toward overcoming any unfortunate consequence. Everything has positive or negative consequences, and I can’t repeat this enough.

Sometimes, tremendous consequences come from what we sometimes consider to be little or insignificant decisions or actions. When the results seem to have a more devastating effect, I am tempted to think there is no such thing as little decisions or actions. On the other hand, small actions and decisions can also result in gigantic results.

“I never looked at the consequences of missing a big shot… when you think about the consequences you always think of a negative result.”
–Michael Jordan

Most youth never take into consideration the consequences of their actions until it is too late. How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it. Is it possible to get in the way of someone’s consequences for an act they committed? Nothing is free in this world; either you pay your own consequences or someone else does. Choices made, whether good, bad, or indifferent, follow you forever and affect everyone in their path one way or another. Some of a person’s emotional scars can be the result of another person’s emotional pain. Hurt people; hurt people.

The way I avoid, as much as I can, the foolishness of someone else’s actions, is to mentally be aware of their capability. It’s similar to making a conscience decision, while you’re driving, to drive for the other guy as well. When you see someone swerving back and forth on the road, stay a good distance behind them or they may inadvertently cause an accident for you.

Without reflection, we blindly go on our way, generating more unintended consequences, and always falling short of achieving anything useful. The actions we take and the decisions we make in this waking moment will have consequences reaching far into our futures. It doesn’t matter if we don’t mean to do the things we do. It means nothing if it was an accident or a mistake. It doesn’t even matter if we think this is all up to fate. Regardless of our destiny, we still have to answer for our actions; and our consequences are those answers.

We all make choices, big and small, every day of our lives, and those choices have consequences. Everyone is going to eventually sit at the table and eat the meal of consequences. However, you can personally be totally engaged in the effort to ensure that the consequences you eat daily, are good and beneficial, as the result of you making sure your actions and decisions are calculating consequences worth paying for.

Dismantle The Walls To Your Progress

MB Text 4-12-2015 (Dismantel Walls)Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.

-Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin is considered America’s first self-help author, who after leaving school at the age of 10 to work in his father’s candle making business, overcame incredible odds to accomplish a great deal in his lifetime. At the age of 12 Benjamin took an interest in the business of printing. It was there where he developed an appetite for reading and writing. Surprisingly enough, Benjamin Franklin became an accomplished inventor, writer, scientist, statesman, philosopher, diplomat and abolitionist. He achieved all of this without graduating from any one of the finest colleges in his day. Imagine what you can do when you understand the power of progress.

If you want to be a winner and you want your life to change for the better, change your philosophy about what is required for progress now! Learn how to make your progress a reality. Progress is not moving away from challenges; it is not shirking from pressure, and it is certainly not backing down from a fight. Progress earns the right to be what it is because it is the potential to push beyond those obstacles.

I so strongly believe there are no constraints on the human mind, no barriers around the human spirit, and no blockades to our progress except those we ourselves construct. Dismantle the walls that impede your progress. Although it may take some time, progress cannot be achieved without consistency.

Positive development, which is usually gradual in nature, works towards achieving a goal or reaching a higher standard. The principle agent for initiating progress is a word most people don’t mind reading about or saying to others. However, they are diametrically opposed to applying it to themselves. That word is CHANGE! If you don’t change what you’re doing, you will never shift your movement from regression to progression. Progress is forward or onward movement. Progress is advancement.

The words progress or progressiveness could be pleasant words to use, however change is the motivator, and change has its enemies. Resistance is an enemy to change; therefore, it is an adversary to progress. If you are resistant to change you are tolerant of excuses. If your ‘should’ does not turn into ‘must’, you will be consistently passive towards change, and progress will never be realized.

Your standards must change. You must place a higher standard on yourself than what others may require of you. If you remain passive toward making the necessary changes in your life, and wait for life to give you the ‘have-to’, something will come along in your life and provide you with the ‘must’ that may not be very pleasant.

It is sad when overweight people are warned by their physicians, that if they don’t change the way they eat they will probably be dead within two years. Only after hearing this kind of threat, do some of them finally get serious about their diets. Sometimes, life’s ‘musts’ comes too late and lives are lost as a result. Or consider relationships which were given little attention because one person thought providing money instead of time, was the only requirement for being a good spouse or parent.

The goal of progress is to reach whatever is placed before it, and the only thing you need to recover from is a fractured sense of self when the journey is laborious. Personal transformation can and does have global effects. As we change, so changes the world around us. The revolution which can save your life and ultimately someone else’s life, is a personal one.

As you learn to master the art of progression, your achievements will eventually give others the right to believe that what you accomplish, they can for themselves, experience similar accomplishments.

The Benefits of Zest

MB_textWhat do you think makes the difference in the quality of people’s lives? This question is not one people would look forward to answering if their life is filled with despondency and regret; however, on the other hand, if a person was accustomed to applying the one component which is the difference between overcoming obstacles rather than capitulating to them, this is a great question.

“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” –Vince Lombardi

What shapes your ability to contribute to not only your own success, but to aid in assisting others in their success? Knowing the answer to this question is the key to avoid making all the wrong turns as you journey towards carving out your purpose and destiny. What you believe is either empowering or disempowering you. Whatever your lead system of belief is, it will lead you towards your success or failure. It is heartrending that a person can so strongly believe in the wrong philosophy that is actually disengaging them from the source of motivation that feeds their passion to achieve their goals.

I have learned that there are no excuses for staying in the same predicament. A person’s physical ability may be impeded, but your mind always has the potential for liberty. Start your process of change by changing your attitude which will eventually help change your environment. Some things can change rather quickly if you just make a choice about what you want in life and where you want to go. As long as your attitude is to take one step at a time, which can be the implication that you want others to applaud your one step, you will be paralyzed with no movement at all.

Steps are usually continuous, not stagnate. No one naturally takes one step and stays frozen in that position unless their true intention is not to do anything more than take that one step. If you want to go somewhere in life and you want to fulfill the dream hiding within the crevasses of your heart, you better start moving today. Change your attitude about what resources you don’t have, and just start moving and doing something with what you already have in your possession. Dismiss the “woe is me” attitude and get excited about your future prospects.

An Attitude is the mirror of the mind and heart. Your attitude reflects your thinking. Attitude also exposes the level of your enthusiasm. However, I discovered that attitude, along with enthusiasm, determines your altitude. It is not ‘why’ you think that shines through, but ‘what’ you think which shows through in how you act. People read attitudes through expressions, voice tones and inflections. Therefore, watch how you respond to questions from your boss or coworker or even life’s situations, because they might be reading you like a book.

You have to make quality decisions that can positively shape your destiny and change your circumstances, and one of those decisions is to select the right attitude. Attitude is your disposition, demeanor, temperament, mannerism, or outward conduct. It is your behavior and it reflects in the way you act and react. No one can choose your attitude but you—so choose the right one.

Attitudes do make the difference. The right attitude will pave the way to having not only a healthy and happy marriage, but add to your life the quality needed to help build the kind of fortitude and courage necessary to deal with all of life’s challenges. The right attitude makes you effective in dealing with people.

If you plan on going somewhere in life, dress for it. Wear the right attitude and you will put on the right clothes. Attitude changes your appearance and when your appearance looks like what you want, you will dress like where you’re going. You can ascend superior over every condition through the strength that Christ provides. People usually don’t attempt anything they don’t believe they can do.

What you fail to muster enthusiasm for usually dies.

Four Steps To Help You Move On When Critics Want You To Stop

criticism-postOnce you make the decision to go all out and make something happen, all the components of various materials conspire to make it happen, and every naysayer and malicious person connives to block it from happening.

Opposition usually doesn’t rear its ugly head until a person is serious about achieving the goals of their life. Have you ever noticed those you were so were true friends, remained so, until you made a decision to move your life in a positive direction which did not include them? All of a sudden your so-called-friend was trying to sabotage your success by giving you every excuse they could think of, in hopes it would influence you not to continue in your personal pursuit of living your dream. They are discouragers not encouragers. The personal interest of this type of person is not to promote someone, but rather to secretly demote them in subtle ways.

I cannot recall a time when I was the brunt of a joke, as much as when I was twenty-three years old preparing to end my time of service in the United States Army. A group of constituents and close acquaintances came together to throw a farewell celebration for me. However, it turned out to be more like a Dean Martin Celebrity Roast Night. Some cracked jokes and laughed about my exiting the military. They laughed about me having no prospects for employment, and they sentenced my future to be as one receiving public assistance and eventually finding myself back in an Army uniform after my dreams had crashed. Nevertheless, they were wrong.

They were wrong for two reasons. One, I never had any doubt or apprehension concerning my decision to get out of the military;…and two, I did not set out to prove them wrong and to prove to them I could make it without big Uncle Sam watching over my shoulder. Sometimes, a joke can be a cover for how someone truly feels about you and the decision you are making with your life. With today’s cell phone technology, you can text a joke to a person about him or herself, and then put LOL on the end; and they may not ever catch the person’s true intent.

When a person makes every attempt to bring you down, it is because they are already beneath you. So, don’t get mad, get glad…because at least you have something for them to joke about. How else can they laugh? Their life is so miserable they need something to laugh about just to keep from crying.

Do you know what you want to do? You should never try to figure out who you are—you should be settled on that. A bird doesn’t try to be a cow and a horse doesn’t attempt to act like a dog. Their internal instincts cause them to habitually be what they are, just as your internal instincts should stir you into who you are. The problem that exists with human beings is most people are only interested in changing who they are to be accepted by their critics.

At the end of the day, be solidified on who you are and not on what others want you to be. Don’t lose sight of your personal desires just because someone does not want to see you succeed. Below are four steps for moving on when the voice of your critics seems to get louder each minute.

1. Don’t respond to your critics.
You know you are paying too much when you are paying attention to your critics.

2. Don’t give up on your dream.
You can stop your day job, but don’t stop your day-dream.

3. Don’t stop your perseverance.
Usually a person discontinues in their perseverance when they anticipate a problem before there is one.

4. Give no credence to how many times you didn’t succeed.
Instead of looking at one failure after another, you should have amnesia after each failure. You can survive by forgetting.

These four basic steps are all that is needed when you are pursuing your goal. Remember it takes little effort to bend over and pick up the fruit that has fallen from a tree, which in most cases, is already rotten. However, it takes pushing, believing, creativity, and stretching to get the best fruit from the top of the tree, which is usually the juiciest. Do you want to bend over for the rotten things in life which are the leftovers no one wants, or are you willing to fight for the best things in life which only a few ever strive to attain?

When you apply these four steps as you engage a non-constructive critic, you will eventually end up winning after losing their bad advice.

What’s Right With You?

Gauge Yourself
Gauge Yourself
Have you ever been disturbed with your actions and said, “What’s wrong with me!?” Well, this is the usual response when a person is disappointed in their performance. When you know you could have done better, you shouldn’t downgrade yourself if your performance was not as good as your last. However, you should examine the degree of your effort. This is not a bad place to be, but rather a great disposition to exhibit. It is not how things turned out that caused your distress; it’s what you said after you saw the results. Instead of asking yourself what’s wrong with you, ask yourself what’s right with you.

You can be at a great station in life, and never recognize the blessing of being there when you are totally engaged with the result. How much are you giving in the effort, depends on the passion you have for what you doing.

If you have come up short after putting forth a mediocre effort, or you have attempted something without fully believing you could do it, the results were in your effort. This applies to careers, school, sports, and life in general. Your concern shouldn’t be mainly in the results after your effort, but rather at the end of the effort you put forth. To the onlooker, the results matters the most, but the effort ought to speak volumes to the person who exerts him or herself.

It’s all about the climb; the journey, the fight, and the exertion. The award is simply a trophy that you can place on your mantle, however, realizing the mental strength one discovers or the physical shape a person develops or the creativeness a person was able to unleash, is the reward that benefits the individual the most. The award is far less in value than the personal reward. The award is the result of the accolades of people, but the reward is the enjoyment of the exertion of overcoming the personal struggle to finish.

Think of all the things that are right with you and do not place a major focus on your negatives. The negatives can change into the positives as you change your perspective of them so that you will exert yourself with all fervor.

You have all the right things stuffed down inside of you; it’s just that sometimes your expectations don’t quite match up to your true ability. Oftentimes, this happens when we have a propensity to measure ourselves by someone else. You are designed as a beautiful specimen; a masterpiece. Why would you fractionally use your creative ability based on someone else’s ability? Get out of the comparing mode and stop competing with others. Why be concerned with how others may feel if you don’t quite hit the home run in life. What others may want from you is usually what they don’t expect out of themselves.

Be your own gauge! Whatever your field of expertise is, don’t prepare yourself based on what others may have achieved. Don’t even consider giving your best effort, which is usually predicated on just above minimum requirement. The idea of effectively becoming unattached from the results is emptying yourself during your effort. When you know you have nothing left in you after you have exerted yourself because of your passion, or love for whatever it is you do, your climb will be worth more than the accolades from others.

It always amazes me how most people are so preoccupied with the potential results when they have not even begun the effort. Before you begin anything, you should ask yourself, “Am I ready to be totally engaged in my effort to develop myself, or am I just interested in taking the shortcuts so that I can get a satisfactory result for little personal investment?” Your priority should not be the results, your priority should be the passion required to exert yourself to the max.

You cannot work it out until you out work yourself.
