Change Yourself Before Change Changes You

MB Text 4-17-2015 (Change)If there is one thing constant in an endless series of episodes throughout one’s life; it is change. The objective or purpose of a person should never change, but the strategy to obtain it must frequently be modified or tweaked. Unforeseen challenges may require one to rethink and rework their strategy to tackle obstacles or struggles, which might otherwise, cripple efforts and negate objectives. It is important for a person to not be foreign to, or intimidated by change, so their approach to dealing with extenuating circumstances can be handled skillfully, and with thoughtful consideration.

Oftentimes, people sit back on their laurels without considering that the success they may have experienced yesterday, in most cases, is not adequate for motivating them to seek and pioneer new territories. Therefore, instead of continuing to seek new ways to keep their lives and businesses fresh and relevant, they become blind to their indifference to change. It is at this point, where life ends up making choices for people while forcing upon them a ‘must’ choice for which they are ill-prepared, both mentally and spiritually, to make on their own. If you, by choice, are not the mid-wife of the emerging newness waiting to envelop your life, your efforts are inadvertently helping to sustain your old way of life.

While one portion of your dream can be crumbling, another part of it may be budding; seeking to be born. One phase of your life can be on the verge of total collapse, while another segment of your life is struggling to gain access and existence into your world. My advice to you is to learn and practice the profession of a midwife. This way, you will know how to deliver even those dreams that are breach coming through the birth canal.

Change is inevitable and so are choices. It is better to change life on your own terms, into what you want it to be, rather than wait for circumstances to force change in your life which produces undesirable results.

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
~ George Bernard Shaw

Too often, I have heard people refer to situations as being able to somehow work themselves out; as if they can correct themselves? I have never seen a mess clean itself up, nor have I ever encountered a solution to a problem not deriving from a person. When something is maintaining instead of thriving, it is slowly dying.

I spoke with a gentleman who told me his 92 year old grandmother had recently died. He said his grandmother worked until she was 87 and stayed active until she was 91. He said the moment she became inactive, she died. The same thing usually happens to people who are young and goalless. There is a 74 year old man who is able to bench press almost three times his weight, and if you were to see him, you would know that he must love life. On the other hand, there is a 29 year old man who is perfectly healthy, but mentally, he is slowing dying. He acts as if he has no energy, he has no dreams, and he’s always complaining about how life seems to have dealt him a bad hand. This young man is just as dead at 29 as the older woman was at 92.

Life requires action! Change is necessary for life to be fluent and graceful. My friend, rehearsal is over, the curtain is open and the lights are on; now live! Don’t lock change out; embrace it, own it, and use it according to your terms. Do not allow change to change your life without your approval.

Put Your Mind On Your Money

MB blog_textSome people excel with money and some don’t – Which One Are You? Are you embarrassed by your money skills? If you are sick and tired of doing money the old way—read this! If you need to increase your income, let’s start by discovering how much money you already have with your present income by discovering how not to make your debtors richer.

“I believe that the power to make money is a gift from God.”
~John D. Rockerfeller

Most people have it all wrong about money in America. Money is the one common thread that ties all the nations of the world together. Poverty is the perversion of prosperity, and the parody of financial freedom is debt. A dollar saved is a value, a dollar invested produces increase. What money comes in today will always reflect what went out yesterday.

The art of creating wealth works in the reverse of how one creates debt. The improper use of money creates debt. Debt is the result of what you cannot afford. Wealth is the result of the appropriate management of money. People have it all wrong, a person doesn’t have to possess a lot of money to create wealth—it is having the knowledge and using it, which causes your money to work to produce wealth for you.

Can You Handle the Truth? Most people aren’t enthusiastic about hearing the truth, especially when it challenges their self-imposed inadequacies. These people concoct fantasies in their mind to substantiate their defects. Now of course, the stories are not true, but they are stories they can believe, which shift the blame of underperforming from themselves to some other person or condition.

Henry Ford once said, “The man that believes he can and the man who believes he can’t are both right.” Most people have had money problems and most people do not give up on life, they continue to march on until they can either find a solution or make up another story. These concocted stories become the reasons or excuses for the lack of passion, which is in my opinion, sheer fear. There is no easier lie to believe than the one that places the blame on God.

You must initially see that debt and financial struggles (poverty) go hand in hand. Please understand that my aim is not to humiliate or beat you down if you find yourself in this predicament, I simply want to give to you a simple plan to better equip yourself and your family to be financially secure. This doesn’t mean you’re going to become a millionaire over night, but you can be en route to fulfilling your dreams and having more money, even if it is not a million dollars in your bank account.

They say that money isn’t everything, and that’s true—but look at how many things it is. In our society, money is everything. For Americans, it is how we keep score. A man’s treatment of money is the most decisive test of his character—how he makes it and how he spends it. Money doesn’t change a person; it simply exposes him or her for who they already are. If money makes you feel better about yourself, then you neither understand yourself nor the reason for creating wealth.

The Bible says, “…For the love of money is the root of all evil.” This verse is often misquoted—it doesn’t say that money is evil. The personal secular methods that help a man acquire a fortune are the very ones that can keep him from enjoying it. Money itself is not evil, nor is it good. Both good and evil can be done with money. The old maxim is, “Money may not bring happiness…”, but I say, “Neither will poverty.”

When a man respects the potential of money and learns to control its influence, he becomes a wise man. Are you a good money manager? Yes you are! All most people need is a little motivation and a little help, and they are on their way to being a blessing to family, church, and to others.

In just three to six months, you can free up some of your cash which can go towards other bills if, you can believe it. The basic requirement needed for debt reduction is for you to “Start.” Learn and apply the spiritual principle of giving. I have heard people say, “But I don’t know where to begin.” My answer is simple. How did you start getting into debt? You started collecting credit cards and systematically using them. Reverse the process. Start with plastic surgery by cutting up your credit cards, then collect and arrange your bills and pay them systematically.

Do not be afraid to examine how you got into your financial mess. Retrace your steps and you will end up where you started—debt free.

Encouragement: The Essence of Cool

cool-postTo be encouraged is one thing, but to maintain encouragement is a whole different ball game. It is important to realize that whatever got you where you are usually isn’t enough to get you where you’re going.

This is a very important lesson to learn because oftentimes people have the propensity to think that doing the same thing initially done is important to maintain. However, trying to maintain the same motivation factor to propel you to a higher attitude and mindset level is inadequate for the new struggles ahead. For instance, married couples have a tendency to think that their marriage will always be the same and that their love will never be challenged because they are sooooo in love. LOL.

The young couple’s level and intensity of love for one another is wonderful if you are considering that most couples start their marriage with borderline infatuation. Honeymooners are not thinking about the challenges ahead because in their mind, love will conquer anything that comes their way. Nah! Love, like any other form of expression starts off in its seed form. Love grows from being tested, stretched, and proven. Young couples may have the love for one another, but do they have the patience to endure the little idiosyncrasies of one another that can wear on one’s patience over time? With the divorce rate being higher among the ages of 23 to 43 than any other age group, it exposes the essentials needed to expand love, and maintaining it is being ignored. Nothing left to its self will work itself out, contrary to popular belief.

To maintain encouragement is the epitome of cool. Staying cool under pressure is an art form. Its foundation is confidence, being personally persuaded and convinced that regardless of how something looks, your outcome will be favorable.

Giving encouragement and living encouraged are two extremes. Oftentimes, the encourager receives just as much inspiration from giving encouragement as the person receiving it. One of the key components to maintaining encouragement in a situation where you feel as if you are under tremendous pressure is finding someone to encourage. I believe it was Celeste Holm who said, “We live by encouragement and die without it – slowly, sadly and angrily.” All things are subjected to one thing—change, so do not give in when you know things are always changing.

Children are one of the best sources of encouragement. The way children are is that they will find a play time in the midst of some of the most unfavorable situations and laugh regardless of the circumstances. However, most adults are just the opposite. They will find every reason to focus on the negatives about a situation, only to use it as an excuse to complain and surrender in the fight.

Being encouraged means you never stop fighting until the change you desire occurs, and you will find every reason why you should continue fighting until you do.

Wisdom For A Better Life

wisdom-life-250Knowledge is not nearly as important as wisdom. In fact, wisdom can use knowledge, but knowledge cannot use wisdom. Those who believe that knowledge is just as important as wisdom usually like to collect information, which may make a person smarter, but not necessarily wise. You see, to know something would be like knowing nothing if you don’t know how to apply what you know.

The Value of Experience

Experience and life lessons are not the best teachers in life. Discover why in this post.

Experience is expensive, and the lessons of life never end. Just when you think you have graduated from the school of experience, along comes a completely new study course with tests at the end of every lesson. It seems like experience would be a better teacher if it did not charge so much for tuition. The value for experience costs more than most people are willing to pay. Sometimes the price of experience costs us more later because we are oftentimes unwilling to pay the cheaper price earlier. Experience is actually what enables you to recognize mistakes when you see it again. If you fall into the same trap that you experienced earlier, it is because you did not gain new experience in how to avoid it. Since life is inundated with the guarantees that life attracts trouble, struggles, and problems, it is necessary that we learn how to take the heat without being burned.

Greek mythology

There is an old Greek mythology about a baby named, Achilles. Baby Achilles was dipped into the waters that would make him impervious or impenetrable to the stroke of the sword or the point of an arrow. However, according to this legend, his submersion covered every place except where his heel was held. Therefore, when Achilles went into the great fight, at first nothing could harm any part of his body. Finally, an arrow pierced Achilles’ heel and caused his death. Centuries after this Greek myth, we still refer to someone’s “Achilles’ heel.” This means an unprotected area or a weak spot.

Weaknesses and Vulnerabilities

All of us have weak and vulnerable areas of our lives that we struggle to protect. We become disturbed by the illusion of problems and therefore we fix our sights on the visible instead of the invisible. Most people would rather treat the symptoms than the problem because fixing the problem means working on oneself. Usually, ‘me’ is not the problem; the problem is the other person. Avoiding your weaknesses does not make them eventually disappear. If you are unequipped for trouble then you are ill prepared for life. Life is loaded with difficulties and struggles. If you are going to get through the struggles of life, you are going to have to struggle to get through. You can no longer act civil when facing problems that are designed to take you out. I discovered that life is not a choreographed wrestling match. People go through real life situations such as divorce, rape or incest, death, financial ruin and so many other tragedies.

Making Adjustments

When you are experiencing turbulence in your life, you must learn to make adjustments and cut the autopilot switch off. You must take control of the instruments of life and weather the storm. As the storm eventually subsides, your problems will let up because you refuse to give up. You must combat your weaknesses, confront your fears and persevere until you get through your troubles or outlast them.

“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles, which he has overcome while trying to succeed.” –Booker T. Washington
