Do You Love Or Like What You Do?

Love your Job textThe title of this post is in the form of a question. I believe that success is the difference between what you love to do and what you like to do. I have never seen or known of anyone who exponentially succeeds at their business, job, or life who didn’t love what they do. I also, have never known of any successful person who didn’t respect his or her time.

There is something extraordinarily interesting to watch a person do what they love doing. On the other hand, there is nothing more disinteresting as to watch a person do what they absolutely feel they have to do without applying any real energy in the process. Success is the difference between loving what you do or simply liking what one does. If life is a bore, then you can believe work makes life that much more boring.

I love waking up in the morning—ready to approach a new day with new exciting adventures waiting for me to experience. I look forward to pioneering new territory and bold endeavors. I can’t imagine what life would be like if I didn’t have a purpose or agenda. When God wakes me up, I get to use the creative ability He gave me to create or to format my day. I discovered the reason successful and creative people love staying up at night to work on ideas as much as getting up in the morning to go back at their project.

I remember sitting in the lobby at the office of a friend of mine, who was on the phone at the time while I was waiting for him. At the lobby desk were two women that stood out to me because there appeared to be such a great contrast between their demeanors and body language. The woman who I assumed was the higher paid secretary appeared more friendly and professional than the other woman who was the receptionist. Sometimes, our tendency is to associate performance with pay grade, but not so in this case.

The person that appeared livelier and more professional about her appearance and how she approached doing her job was actually the receptionist. The secretary looked nice, but every movement of hers suggested she didn’t want to be there. She was bland in her response on the phone, she didn’t greet others with a smile, and there was nothing about her that would make people feel comfortable in approaching her. In fact, I saw one man who seemed to wait for her to turn her back so he could ask the receptionist a question. To me, this would imply that her body language was as intrusive and offensive than someone with halitosis.

After the secretary took me into my friend’s office, I asked him a question about her demeanor. He said, “Funny you would ask that question. My partner and I spoke of moving her to another office with less traffic.”

You see, the receptionist exuded personality and vigor because she loved what she was doing. People who are in business or simply a domestic engineer, if you do not love what you’re doing the odds of you succeeding in that field is slim to none. To love or to like is the difference between surviving and striving. Your energy level will always be low when you don’t want to be somewhere or when you don’t like the job you have. For those who enjoy their job, life, or business, there seems to never be enough hours in a day.

People who like what they do, work to live; people who love what they do, live to work. People who do not understand life and how it works are oftentimes envious of those who do. Low energy people think that the person who is full of energy and excitement about what they do is over doing it and that much effort is not necessary. When you find yourself pondering on thoughts like this, usually somewhere in your subconscious, you believe that all financially successful people are greedy. This is the furthest thing from the truth!

If you don’t love what you do by committing your life and energy to it, it’s not worth doing. When you hear of a house flipper buying houses and fixing them up for a person to buy, it’s not just for the money. People like this will go from one project to another because they love the challenge. Their motivation is to see their creative value put into a dilapidated house that will then cause others to want to buy their work. To love what you do has to have a motivation that is beyond money. Successful people have a motivation to help others, to be creative, and they ooze purpose. A person will work harder for their children and legacy than they will for only themselves.

If you can find joy in your work, it will become more than a job; it will be a daily adventure. If you can change your attitude, which is that small thing that matter, you will be promoted from mediocrity to excellence. Success will always be the experience with the person who loves what they do.

What is Your Time Worth

MB 7-21-15 TextCan time make you rich or poor? I want you to think for a moment, and ponder on this question. Are you spending your time learning and planning to die or are you using your time learning and planning to live?

I am impressed with the urgency to do. Action is a unique word that I love to see in motion because I become thrilled by the prospect of its results. I am not impressed with just knowing something; it just isn’t enough for me. However, the application of knowledge is captivating. To be willing is not enough; I believe we must be more than willing, we must do. If people will govern the time they have to accomplish the things they truly desire for their future, they will have more time in their future to live the life they really want to live.

It is a well-known fact that people of accomplishment rarely sit back and let things happen to them. This is because they do the inside work first, something transpires within them which causes them go out and generate things to happen for them. All that occurs with passive time, are the things you don’t want to happen.

Children spend most of their time growing and learning as the world opens daily to their senses. Young people spend time searching for ways to live and enjoy life. Aging people usually stop growing and learning, and have little to no interest in searching for ways to live life, because they’ve decided the only thing remaining for the aging is to sit and wait for time to close their eyes forever. When time is spent, eternity begins. Waiting is procrastination stealing your time away. No matter how old you are, time is available to use wisely.

Living with purpose is the act of living on purpose. In other words, you have a reason to get up every morning with the anticipation that something good awaits you. You view your alarm clock as your opportunity clock alerting you of the time you have for that day. Time stays long enough for anyone who will use it. If you spend too much time thinking about doing something, you will actually end up wasting the precious time you have to do it. Most people spend more time and energy going around problems than they do trying to solve them. Life becomes more challenging when you are actually engaged in the effort, and not primarily with the results.

Don’t let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. Believe you me, when your time used wisely converts to dollars and fulfillment, it becomes worth it for you. When you value your time, you will do something with it. You will not allow others to steal it from you, nor will you give it away to undeserving people who don’t value their own time.

Think about this for a moment; your time is your life. Time is nothing but years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds gifted-wrapped as a precious present given to humanity, and it’s called life. The only difference with this gift is that it is not a surprise you know exactly what’s inside. The only issue which can possibly exist is your ignorance of knowing what to do with it. There is nothing that cannot happen today in the allotted time you have.

We all have dreams. But in order to turn dreams into reality we need to turn time into effort. Your life and dreams are like a garden which requires patient labor and attention. Plants do not grow merely to satisfy ambitions or to fulfill good intentions, they thrive because someone took the time to expend the necessary effort on them.

Put Your Mind On Your Money

Most people have it all wrong about money in America. Money is the one common thread that ties all the nations of the world together. Poverty is the perversion of prosperity, and the parody of financial freedom is debt. A dollar saved is a value, a dollar invested produces increase. What money comes in today will always reflect what went out yesterday.

The art of creating wealth works in the reverse of how one creates debt. The improper use of money creates debt. Debt is the result of what you cannot afford. Wealth is the result of the appropriate management of money. People have it all wrong, a person doesn’t have to possess a lot of money to create wealth—it is having the knowledge and using it, which causes your money to work to produce wealth for you.

Can You Handle the Truth? Most people aren’t enthusiastic about hearing the truth, especially when it challenges their self-imposed inadequacies. These people concoct fantasies in their mind to substantiate their defects. Now of course, the stories are not true, but they are stories they can believe, which shift the blame of underperforming from themselves to some other person or condition.

Henry Ford once said, “The man that believes he can and the man who believes he can’t are both right.” Most people have had money problems and most people do not give up on life, they continue to march on until they can either find a solution or make up another story. These concocted stories become the reasons or excuses for the lack of passion, which is in my opinion, sheer fear. There is no easier lie to believe than the one that places the blame on God.

You must initially see that debt and financial struggles (poverty) go hand in hand. Please understand that my aim is not to humiliate or beat you down if you find yourself in this predicament, I simply want to give to you a simple plan to better equip yourself and your family to be financially secure. This doesn’t mean you’re going to become a millionaire over night, but you can be en route to fulfilling your dreams and having more money, even if it is not a million dollars in your bank account.

They say that money isn’t everything, and that’s true—but look at how many things it is. In our society, money is everything. For Americans, it is how we keep score. A man’s treatment of money is the most decisive test of his character—how he makes it and how he spends it. Money doesn’t change a person; it simply exposes him or her for who they already are. If money makes you feel better about yourself, then you neither understand yourself nor the reason for creating wealth.

The Bible says, “…For the love of money is the root of all evil.” This verse is often misquoted—it doesn’t say that money is evil. The personal secular methods that help a man acquire a fortune are the very ones that can keep him from enjoying it. Money itself is not evil, nor is it good. Both good and evil can be done with money. The old maxim is, “Money may not bring happiness…”, but I say, “Neither will poverty.”

When a man respects the potential of money and learns to control its influence, he becomes a wise man. Are you a good money manager? Yes you are! All most people need is a little motivation and a little help, and they are on their way to being a blessing to family, church, and to others.

In just three to six months, you can free up some of your cash which can go towards other bills if, you can believe it. The basic requirement needed for debt reduction is for you to “Start.” Learn and apply the spiritual principle of giving. I have heard people say, “But I don’t know where to begin.” My answer is simple. How did you start getting into debt? You started collecting credit cards and systematically using them. Reverse the process. Start with plastic surgery by cutting up your credit cards, then collect and arrange your bills and pay them systematically.

Do not be afraid to examine how you got into your financial mess. Retrace your steps and you will end up where you started—debt free.

Increasing Your Value Without Lowering Your Quality

value-post-200What part of you do you believe you value the most—the outward appearance or the inward qualities? If you were a product or merchandise, would you be worth selling to your high-end clients? Do you consider yourself a rare piece of fine art whose price is non-negotiable?

While living in this highly technological culture, along with its groundbreaking medical cures and research, new advancement in plastic surgery and scientific breakthroughs, people are less concerned with character than they are with appearance. Just think; if you don’t like your weight, gastric bypass or one of the other ways to get around eating healthy and daily exercise is available. If you think your lips are too thin, apply a small dosage of collagen to fatten them up. Or if your hair is not long enough or full enough, there are weaves, extensions and other hair and scalp products that makes people question if what is on the head is real or not.

The American business industry aggressively pushes commercials and advertising on their viewership suggesting that external appearance is far more important than inner qualities. Therefore, it is no small wonder why companies, inventors, and the clothing industry are spending billions annually while making a mad dash to either steer mainstream values or create new ways to feed the ‘Me’ culture. The ‘Me’ culture is nothing but a masking of the ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ tradition.

But what about the spiritual qualities that allows a person to have a sense of mental stability? Do real inner qualities matter in today’s society where people are more concerned with breaking the rules to get ahead? Obviously, this is a dog-eat-dog culture where the weak are swallowed up and the strong are mastered by the rich. However, everyone doesn’t live their lives or conduct business like most people today who believe the bottom line is money exclusively.

In the movie Jerry Maguire, Jerry was a model sports agent, eager to do just about anything he could to get the largest possible contracts for his clients, with of course, a nice commission for himself. Until, one day, he suddenly has qualms about what he’s actually doing. When he voices these misgivings in writing, he eventually loses his job and all of his clients are stripped from him, leaving him with a secretary who believes in what he’s doing, and Rod Tidwell, a football player who he hopes will show as much of his heart on the football field as he does for his family. Jerry then looks to resurrect his career while still staying true to himself.

Yes, we are all a product or merchandise that has value. Daily, we exchange portions of our intellect, time, and energy for a wage or salary. Each individual makes their own determination of how much money they will agree to accept in exchange for their abilities. However, what I may personally agree to for a wage doesn’t determine my intrinsic value. A 1960’s Zenith television commercial slogan was, “The quality goes in before the name goes on.” Placing more value on the inside, personally determines the value externally.

Look at building your business with character to attract quality customers whose purchasing power will remain, rather than building the appearance only which contains no substance. Build your family with qualities that creates stability and produce off-spring with good character. Establish relationships that are not predicated on what you can give to each other, but what you can be to one another.

What would you rather have as a business owner, the ability to attract 5,000 customers in a week to buy your product that you know has no real substance, or 500 customers who love your product and service, and who go out and tell their friends about it? In the long run, you will eventually turn 500 happy customers into 500,000 customers over time. Intrinsic qualities will prove to be far more lucrative than outer appearances.

After removing the cosmetics and putting on a few extra pounds, will your spouse want what you use to be or will they still be in love with who you truly are. The quality truly must go in before you think about placing yourself on the market. Remember, all that glitter’s is not gold!
